South Pole Race

According to FE the south pole doesn't exist, and hence this race must be part of the conspiracy.

The question is, why go to so much trouble? What need is there to claim that the race heads to a non-existent point, when it could be just as challenging to, say, circle the ice wall.

One might argue that the race is a propaganda tool designed to keep people believing the place exists, but then I don't think the race is nearly high profile enough for it to have a significant effect, especially when the space agencies can produce much more stunning footage of the Earth itself. The purpose of the conspiracy is to generate profit, but all this race does is spend money. If mainstream society already believes the Earth is round, I can't see this as a worthwhile investment.

Any thoughts?

The stance isn't that the south pole doesn't exist on FE.  The stance is, if I have this correct, that the physical south pole and the magnetic south pole are the same location.  I don't have the google earth plugin so I can't be sure of route of this race, but most expeditions in Antarctica traverse from some point to the south pole and back again.  I postulated a trip from Queen Maud Land to Victoria Land, which would cut the continent in half and prove that it was surrounded on three sides by water.  I never got a response on whether or not this would be accepted evidence from FE'ers.

However, they do deny that the midnight sun exists in the south pole, despite strong observations.

In fact, it should be 24 hour daylight there now for a great deal of the continent.

This is the route:

Assuming they go back the way they came, I guess this doesn't then prove that Antarctica exists as a continent rather than ring, but it still begs the question of why they would be claiming to be heading to the south pole itself, which in FE isn't a single point, but a ring (by my understanding).

It didn't happen.

A documentary filming the race is being filmed for the BBC, so even if the race wasn't to the south pole, they still went somewhere. The questions of "why go to all the trouble?" and "why spend all the that money?" still stand.

In order to go to the south pole it has to exist.

They follow the magnetic field lines until they become vertical.

Maybe the found the south pole as they slipped off the ice wall and saw the bottom of the earth as it passed by.

Please do not confuse the magnetic south pole with the geographic south pole.  They are not the same thing or in the same location.

Besides, perhaps FET is a conspiracy too.

This is the route:

An interesting point is that the route they are using to get to the base is from the opposite side of Antarctica that the supply planes from McMurdo Station come from. This means that the racers will never reach the base under a FE model, unless they plan to go half way round the planet
