Still don't know what to do. I have a mirc shortcut on my desktop, but when I click it, it automatically opens to quakenet.. I've clicked everything!

The trial time is infinite, I'm pretty sure. Mine's been in trial mode for more than 600 days.

EXACTLY.  I just installed it for the first time, I don't see how reinstalling it will help.

OK, I think I figured out how to add a server.  What do I put in the "description"?

Click file, then select server, then add a new one, with the server irc.oftc.net and the port 6667, call it what you like. Then type the command /join #theflatearthsociety and if it doesn't let you in, type /msg nickserv identify <your password> then join again. That's my little guide.

mIRC sucks. For Windows, use Xchat2.

Alright, type "/msg NickServ REGISTER <password> <e-mail>" and insert a random password and your email

after that, it should confirm you or something...

then type:

/nickserv identify <the password you entered in the last thing>


then, if you want... after that's confirmed, type: /nick <eneter a nickname here>

so you do this

after logging into the server type this in the message area
/msg NickServ REGISTER <password> <e-mail>
and replace password with what you want your password to be and email with your email

then
type
/nickserv identify <password>
and replace password with the password you just entered
after that
go to the menu called commands and then choose join server and type
#theflatearthsociety
and then your in

Don't give up.

Try reinstalling it and immediately connecting to irc://irc.oftc.net/ in the connect dialog that pops up.

This happened to me last night and I couldn't figure out any other way around it.  When I connected the first time I didn't immediately connect to the right server and it picked a random server.  I had to reinstall mIRC to change the server.  You'd think there must be another way to do it but I couldn't figure it out.

Until you make sure you're on the right server I think everything else will be a waste of effort.

You can try it. Do you have a virus scanner or a firewall running? I couldn't get on the server because my virus scanner was blocking it, when I disabled it I had no problems at all.
