Is analytical thinking God testing us or Satan deceiving us?
« on: October 05, 2008, 09:35:31 AM »
A question for Christians... is analytical thinking God testing us or Satan deceiving us? I've heard both viewpoints and I would like someone to answer the question and explain their answer.

Though I respect the 1st amendment, replies like "God doesn't exist" will be ignored.

actually ive always tried to figure this out since if we were put here to pray to god why would he give us other thoughts to shun him out of our mind

all the religious ppl say is that he gave us free will to test us.

I believe he gave us free will, because playing with dolls is gay.

As a secular-humanist I have to say that I believe in neither

HOWEVER for the purposes of this thread and general philosophical pondering I would suggest that God-given free will naturally creates a desire in us to learn about the world and it is natural that we would question God, desire to question god is a non-biblical desire which implies that because the devil is supposedly tempting us then it would be the work of the devil.

Sea monkeys that shot each other and were horrible sexual deviants would be quite fun to watch.

Analytical thinking is not always in conflict with faith based beliefs. I'm not Christian albeit, but I have yet to hear of anyone religious (other than fanatics) who believes that having logical thoughts are bad. My aunt is Christian and she uses analytic thinking skills very often.

Are you referring to analytic thinking in terms of questioning the bible or god himself?
If I was asked to imagine a perfect deity, I would never invent one that suffers from a multiple personality disorder. Christians get points for originality there.

Yes.
I have not been in a church that would look down on questioning your beliefs. Most pastures I've had would encourage this, they'd rather someone return willingly to God than force someone to pretend to believe something.

I think Christianity tends to be misrepresented.

There are some less rotten apples in every religion. I have been graciously accepted inside synagogues, temples, churches and mosques alike.

My own family, however, has practically disowned me due to my atheism. It is made quite clear that I am unwelcome in their presence.

Though sympathies may exist, faith is ultimately incompatible with free thought by definition.

Yes.
I should have put a comma there. (Bible or god) Unless yes means both.

Probably because those two are the most common arguments against atheism through logical thinking.

Neither, if you analyse the core reason of analysis.
God and Satan are, infact, results of analysis, being explinations for natural phenomena.
Rowbotham was not right in all of his explanations. It doesn't help he wrote in victorian english, either.

Analytical thinking is perfectly fine in my book. When I think about it, there are more flaws with evolution than ID. Of course, you will say that the major flaw is that God cannot be proven, and I say he doesn't need to.

God is real, but he is not almighty. He doesn't test you, you test yourself. However, if you choose to revere the silent monster that set this ball of dirt into motion, then he wants you to display his glory and for you to be his lamb. Become a squishy fuzz ball of reverence for the weaver of this place. But, he is a vain creature. He has underlings specifically designed to monitor his own grace and remind him of his might. You are not any god's most valued beast. But, you are close to the wisest of men. If you are wise enough to disprove him to those blessed by him, he blesses you for your skill. If you are wise enough to prove him to everyone who questions him, he rewards you for your blessing. Analytical thinking is a cherry on his tree, you are the pit. He is unable to punish you unless you give yourself to him. So, feel free, the lion of God is hated and the serpent is debated. But, the hound of two heads rides on snakes and steals lions to be crated. I watch the fence, just release your mind to the faulty maker and see how his pride is your forsaker. lolol
