Although satellites have passed over Antarctica, and I have heard of jets that have flown over Antarctica, relatively few airplanes make that trip. Partly its because various international agreements have divided up Antarctica into protected territories under different countries for scientific purposes. Partly because Antarctica has consistently bad weather, even in summer, and those scientific outposts are not well equipped to do any sort of rescues, especially when it might involved prolonged travel. But mostly because Antarctica is about as wide as North America and relatively few planes would fly all the way from California to Pennsylvania without refueling, but there are very facilities in Antarctica, they are not conveniently located and they are stocked primarily for their own aircraft.
So there are few airplane flights over Antarctica, but the fact that there have been any is sufficient to explode the notion that Antarctica is somehow the edge of the planet.
