Life is just a big version of The Sims.
« on: December 21, 2007, 05:41:31 PM »
Games like the Sims are called God Games for a reason.

You create the people, you control what they do, you kill them or let them live, etc.. all the things that God does. So this brings me to this theory.

We as the population of Earth are just a big version of The Sims. There is some entity out there that is "playing" us like you and I play the Sims. Think about it, it makes perfect sense. In the Sims you start out with the original game, and as time goes by newer technology/items get added to the game. On Earth Humans started out with almost nothing, and now look at were we are and all we have. Next you look at one of the settings of the Sims. Free Will, you can set it so your Sims have none and they do only what you tell them, or you can set it to where they have 100% and they do whatever they want and don't listen to you at all, or you can have it set anywhere in between. The real life equivalent to that would be the following. No Free will equals the bible beating religious nuts, 100% free will equals people like me who come up with ideas like this, and the other settings determine which side of those two you are closer to. The people closer to the no free will setting would look at this idea as crazy while the people closer to 100% free will will look at this idea as plausible and probably have their own theory's on how humans/religion got to where it is today. Now the next thing is the most important part of this idea, and the part that sparked it in my mind. Your Sims can play The Sims. Why is that a big thing you ask, well I'll tell you. If your Sims can play the Sims, then that means they are essentially controlling something that is based off of them but they don't know it. In a way they like us when we play The Sims are playing "God".

Now for those that are too lazy to read all of that, or to those that got confused here is a simpler version.
A greater power(s) is controlling us like we control The Sims. The major advancements in human life can be equated to "Expansion packs", and the minor advancements can be equated to people with some programming knowledge.

Now is that what can be considered a Crazy idea? Yes, but at the same time it is an idea that is just as plausible as the idea of a flat earth, or one single "God".

Your Thoughts?

I don't have The Sims, therefore I don't care.

Nope, real life is worse than that. We have no control, and I am not even sure if Yahweh does.

Can you prove that anyone controls anything?

Well, I would do exactly what you are doing right now, if I had the same genetics as you, the same experiences, and if I were in the same situation.

The universe shaped us all, the universe gives us our situations. We are similar to programs.

Not quite. Set in the same EXACT situation twice, quantum mechanics says that the electrons in our brains could take a different course. We could in fact do something else simply because a different thought would come to our heads.

That what does the application of death do to the disease of life?

Er...I don't get your question. Many diseases can cause death if left untreated, which is in most cases, an undesirable occurrence. To alleviate symptoms and prevent death, cures are remedied for diseases. Life, which ends in death, has no cure.

Hah, nice answer. The number of people that play that game is a testament to the downfall of the human race.

Define control over yourself. You decide what you will do. The fact that what you will do can be predicted was your argument for lack of free will. I told you it's unpredictable and you say it's still not a decision.

Think about what you are trying to say then have fun.

Yet life doesn't cause death. It simply ends with death.

Horrible comparison.

I know people with cancer, and they aren't currently dead. That doesn't mean the cancer won't ultimately cause their death.

Yes, but it also means cancer hasn't caused their death yet.

And a lot of the time cancer doesn't kill you, suffocation or organ failure do.
