How did you discover The Flat Earth Society?
« on: November 11, 2007, 12:13:27 PM »
This is mostly directed to the noobs, I want to know where they are coming from.

Anyway, my story:

Vauxhall and I were in Ancient History class in ninth grade and I had a book entitled "World's Greatest Mysteries" that I was reading.  One of the entries said "The Flat Earth Society" and I started to read it.  I though it was pretty funny and I showed it to Vauxhall.  At break Vauxhall and I went down to the computer lab and wikied "The Flat Earth Society".  At the bottom was the link that said "Flat Earth Society Forums", so naturally I was like "Oh shit!  They have forums!".  So we go to the website in which Vauxhall makes his first post under his first username "Look at the Horizon!".  Yes, we were noobs.

I've posted in these kinds of threads before, but I've never given the entire detailed story.  Trekky told me about the stuff that he and Vauxhall kept finding on this sight, and he wanted me to join.  Earlier in the day, I had reluctantly agreed to a pact about me not writing any further in my story until we returned to our mother's house from our father's.  I had the next part all in my head, and I REALLY needed to write it down before I forgot it, so Trekky said that if I joined FES, I could write.  I was a silly 6th-going-on-7th-grader then and agreed.  Well, that's how my first account got started.  My current one I made simply because I was bored.

I was looking up discworld stuff, I think there was a wiki link along the lines of "it is loosely based  on the real theory that the Earth is flat" or something to that effect, followed a link from 'flat earth' to 'flat earth society' followed the link at the bottom of the page to here...see following links can b dangerous.

Someone linked to here from another board, so I checked it out.  The person who linked was just like most of the people who come here thinking you guys are stupid.. anyway I posted back to the person that maybe he should have read some of the posts before trying to launch a troll invasion.

Hi Mr Tea  :)
I'm sorry. Am I to understand that when you have a boner you like to imagine punching the shit out of Tom Bishop? That's disgusting.

I found the site through another board as well. Interestingly, I've been on the other board for a lot longer, yet have 10% of the posts I have on here.

The troll invasions here tend to be so pathetic, probably because so many of our regulars fit the normal classification of a troll.  People usually just end up pwning themselves because they have no idea what the site is really about.

Someone linked to here on another board. He thought we needed cheering up.
I checked it out. One other person from that board also came on and decided to try spamming [he's an arse normally anyway] and so we both got banned on that site for spamming here.

I wasn't even spamming. :( I was asking legit questions and laughing at my monitor.

I stumbled onto this site by googling something unrelated. The prospect of clever debate lured me into the swamp of pseudo-logic that is FES. It's been a fun ride so far.

A co-worker told me there is a group where people actually believe the Earth is flat, so I read up more on Wikipedia and it led me here.  I was truly astonished.

A friend told me about it. I then told someone else who ended up joining rather recently.
If I was asked to imagine a perfect deity, I would never invent one that suffers from a multiple personality disorder. Christians get points for originality there.

On a video-game-related website.  Someone was like, "Oh, you think that guy's a moron?  Check out this page!"   :-*

That was about a year ago.  And here I am!   :-*
