time zones
« on: June 13, 2007, 12:36:36 PM »
Ok, so assuming the earth is flat, how do time zones come into play? the reason for time zones on a round earth, is so the days are shorter in winter and longer in the summer (or reversed). this is because in the summer seasons, the round* earth (northern hemisphere -- which is another thing you FE people must not believe in. ) is closer to the sun, and the southern hemisphere is farther away.

On to hemispheres. I was recently in Chile, which is in the same time zone as Atlanta (where I live). at this exact moment it is COLD (mid 30s to 40s farenheit). In atlanta where I am now, it is almsot 90 degrees farenheit. According to you FE peeps, because the sun is 3000 miles away, then most ofthe earth must be about the same temp. which its not.

thanks for your replies

That argument is shit.  The RE sun is millions of miles away, and we have plenty of temperature difference along the earth just from a bit of tilt.

So are you saying that every time I travel to Alabama and I set my clock back an hour, that its completely unneccesary? and how do you explain how its dark New York long before its dark in, say, California? If the earth was actually flat, wouldnt everything have the same time of day and the like?

The sun revolves above the equatoraround an undefined barycenter on a flat earth.  Yes, time zones still exist.

ok, so the earth looks like a pizza right? with a giant wall of ice around the border.. now assuming thats the correct map (cause I've heard of so many), then how does one define the equator? of the RE, the equator is the farthest circumference from the center of the earth. how do you define the equator on the FE since all the distances are equal?

Have you read the FAQ?

The equator is the circle that's equidistant from both the North Pole and the Ice Wall.

but if the sun really goes along the equator, and the earth is flat, then the earth would be lit up ALL the time. thats the thing about light- it fills up space!

take a pizza. take a flashlight. shine the flashlight ANYWHERE on the pizza, and every other part of the pizza will have a bit of light on it. so by your theory (and thats all it is), the earth is either in constant twi light, or its day time. and quit refering to the stupid FAQ. its not a bible with infinite answers.. You should be able to recite it if its so full of "fact"

that model says nothing, btw. and no, I was giving you an example.

again with the pizza (just because I feel like spiting you), pretend the crust is your "Ice wall". take a flashlight and shine it on the SIDE of the pizza (parallel to it). you will see that the light goes right over the pizza, still illuminating all parts, and STILL giving you constant day or twilight.

As a REer, allow me to clarify. A magical sun is not strictly required to get the effect, as Mr. Ireland rather correctly suggests. If the sun emitted directed light (and it does not) then the sun could shine on one part of the disc and not another. Lasers produce directed light. Very special floodlights produce directed light using special mirrors or lens or both. We know that the light arriving from the Sun is not directed because of the wide area it covers and its rays' various incident angles at the same location.

Oh the stupidity! The FE's attempt to patch the gaping holes in their theory by saying that evidence that would prove them wrong has been doctored or is part of the conspiracy.

that is quite ammusing. Also note that they have no actual evidence besides ms. paint pictures and an FAQ to back up their claims. Atleast we have pictures and stuff, and we RE ers dont need a conspiracy theory to feel like were right. I guess nothing will change their diluted minds though
