What are REers trying to prove?
« on: March 15, 2007, 11:43:54 PM »
Why do REers invade a board dedicated to Flat Earth research? And why are they so hostile, and not considerate at all about their invasion, sometimes outright trolling threads? To me it looks like they really have something important to prove to themselves.

My position is that they must be very shaky in their Round Earthist belief, and seek reassurance by ganging up on easy prey.

Why is your faith so shaky?

My knowledge of the round earth is not shaky, it has been proven lots of times.
Here's an explanation for ya. Lurk moar. Every single point you brought up has been posted, reposted, debated and debunked. There is a search function on this forum, and it is very easy to use.

Well, I can't speak for everyone but I wandered here because I thought this was some kind of joke.  Then upon reading, I discovered that some here might actually take this theory seriously.  Ever a curious person, I really seek to understand how someone could believe in an idea that seems thoroughly ridiculous in the face of physical laws we face on a daily basis, even if NASA is a grand conspirator.

Return question...why do you classify yourself as easy prey?

are u sure they do?
I haven't yet made my mind up whether the "believers" are serious or not, or whether this is either some practical joke, or some experiment to see the reactions of people and to see if they could actually convert anyone...it's possible someone will jump out and say "smile, you're on Candid Camera!"

Last time I checked, this is OUR board. Every time I check a thread, one of you is insulting OUR position, saying we are retards, that we have no evidence, that we are "just kidding," etc. And then others turn around and call US arrogant.

What does it mean, that REers are so insecure that they need to attack us like this?

I could, but they would sway everyone else, because they could boast that we refuse to answer them.

Of course, they boast that either way...

Did you just insult the intellectual capacity of your fellow FE'ers? Sounded like it. :)

Eh? EH? Did you? :D

Well pu it this way then you are an obvious target for the bored and the simply confrontation hungr people because, well from what I've seen you neither really do anything or say anything concrete to prove people or RErs wrong. The theory of the flat earth is about as far up the walls as the intelligent design theory of the earth being only 6000 years old, and so easy to disprove for anyone with only moderate scientific knowledge (this doesn't mean they're necesarily right of course but still) that that makes for an easy win in almost every single argument.
So why bother arguing? Because people like to win thats why, and for some I suppose because theories like this scare them as they, if they gained momentum among the general public, would topple the world as we know it and could, like the intelligent design theory, potentially bring with them other infringements on the way we're expected to live our lives.

As for it being your forum, yes I suppose so but you put it up here for people to come and argue, or discuss things pertaining to the idea that the earth might be flat, well it shouldn't come as a surprise to you that some people will disagree with you and that some people are bastards.
