Uh now I remember why I stopped coming here. Getting talked down to for asking a question your legitimettaly curious about leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

So wait, there's 56 pages of this an no one here is yet to build a vaccum chamber and do tests? I know Mythbusters did it but people say it wasn't a vacuum because the rocket filled it with gas. Ok so use the smallest rocket (1/4A) I believe and a bigger chamber with a vacuum gauge attatched to make sure it stays a vacuum. Put your money where your mouth is at sheesh.

Flat Earth General / Total solar eclipse
« on: February 23, 2016, 06:36:30 AM »
About every 18 months there is a total solar eclipse that is visible from different locations on earth.
With it we can figure out the size of the umbra, penumbra, and both their paths across the earth. What can we figure out about the shape of the earth,  size of both bodies (moon/sun), and there distance from us?

Please provide evidence for your claim and/or sources. I'm not interested in random untested thoughts off of the top of your head, although I realize most won't be able to stop themselves.

You can get as technical as you want and say "but all he said was do the science" but really that thought process isn't helping anyone further there knowledge.
So I follow the rules of the post and I still lose?  I wish you RE'ers could at least be a little intellectually honest.

You didn't lose and did nothing wrong. yes you followed the rules. You know and I know and everyone else knows that object fall towards the earth, either do to the earths acceleration or gravity. You posted it just to be silly which I fine I was just stating it added nothing to the thread.

Holy shit, you were the first person to actually read what my original post was and do it.
Actually, I was.  My post was #17.  His was #25.
Unfortunately for you post, on the RET, the pen would fall as well due to gravity so your test proves both theory's work in that aspect. You can get as technical as you want and say "but all he said was do the science" but really that thought process isn't helping anyone further there knowledge.

Did anyone attempt the very simple experiment of observing the waters edge in the distance from a starting point of the waters edge ?

Plenty of people have observed shore line to shore line at distances that are supposed to be beyond the curve.

anyone ?

curvature ?

maybe this quick and simple mystery is just to much for the paradigm huggers.

This series of pictures shows ships between 15-25km from the observer, photographed from both sea level and 12m altitude.  Also included are pictures of the distant shoreline of the island that lies across the bay, from both sea level and 12m altitude.  There are examples of photos taken at magnifications of 1:1, 8:1 and 28:1.

In these series are shown;

1. ships at 8 times magnification viewed from different elevations, the higher elevations revealing more of the hulls than are visible at sea level (0m)
2. Island coastland viewed at 8x magnification from different elevations, with more of the lower view of the coast visible from higher elevations
3. 28x telescope images of selected views of both coastal land and ships showing that higher magnification does not increase the proportion of the subject viewable but that higher elevation does increase the proportion of the subject that is visible.

Note: Some images have been reduced in size to make comparisons easier, the full view is available by cliking the image.

Here is an experiment I did almost a year ago:

Recently I organized an experiment to prove the shape of the Earth where Dephelis and I both took pictures of the Sun at the same time at two very distant locations.  Time zones were obviously taken into account.

My photo:

Dephelis's photo:

Astronomy telescopes have a tendency to flip their image as well as rotate it in weird ways and also it was sunrise for me and sunset for Dephelis so we are seeing the sun at different orientations.  Here is my image rotated 180 degrees to match Dephelis's image better:

Here I have identified the sunspots on the two images:

Both these images contain the same sunspots in the same places which means that when they were taken the same side of the Sun was facing the two telescopes, but these images were taken at the same time from different continents so the only explanation is that the Sun is really far away, and if the Sun is really far away then the only way that time zones and seasons can be explained is by saying that the Earth is round.  Any resident of Earth has experienced seasons, and time zones had to be taken into account when this experiment was being preformed so they are obviously real.

Conclusion: the Earth is round.

I could repeat it if any willing participants live far away from the United States and has a telescope with a solar filter.  We could also repeat this experiment with the Moon instead of the Sun.

Holy shit, you were the first person to actually read what my original post was and do it. If I could give you a medal I would. thank you for this. This is the exact sort of stuff I had in mind. truly putting your money where your mouth is. I know have more respect for you and your counter part than anyone else on this forum.

Flat Earth General / Re: "Science" Does Not Matter. It's a Red Herring.
« on: January 16, 2016, 04:42:00 PM »
I feel like there's is no argument here its just people really wanting to support one side or the other because they either think zetetic goes with FET and science goes with RET.

Are they not just 2 sides of the same coin?
Zetetic method- you go for a picnic and notice the body of water your near is moving, hm curious. upon further inspection you see its all flowing in one directions. You realize the water must start somewhere and end somewhere and that you can now tell which direction is down hill. The zetetic method has just been successful in figuring something out.

Scientific method- You think I bet all water goes into the ocean. You go to several bodies of water and notice the water is flowing in one direction. you follow the water and realize its going down hill to the ocean.  scientific method has just figured something out.

There obviously will be people on both sides that use the methods wrong and give them bad names.

Engineering in my mind uses both methods at once to accomplish something.

I found this quote from someone who seems an expert in Zetectically (is that a word?) gained knowledge.
There seems to be a lot of topics saying that a flat earth contradicts astronomy, but no one has tried making a working of the stars, or asking how they work.
So instead of saying stars can't work on your model. I want to ask you how do they work on your model. How do they move, do they increase in distance, how near do stars need to be for you to see them. How do you get around the SCP problem.

Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about it.  I mean after all, they're just lights in the sky.  How much can we expect to ever know about them?

In any case, you might like Zetetic Astronomy.  Zetetic means "seeker."  As in, seeker of truth.

The game is simple, choose which you believe to be better then from your decision write a 5 word or less way that this method has improved life for you and others.

rule 1)Please 5 words or less, I know it will be irresistible for some of you to follow this.
rule 2)Don't dispute someone else's claims, it will jumble the thread and make it a waste.
I realise these rules probably wont hold up because of a lack of maturity but a man can dream.

Flat Earth General / Flat Earth scientists
« on: January 14, 2016, 05:56:27 PM »
Is there any sort of organized science group amongst flat earth believers? By this I mean people who present properly written science papers and put them up to be reviewed by peers and the science community, Who then can have there ideas be properly tested to decide if they are accurate or don't hold up. I feel like these should be steps taken, if there are not already, to get the flat earth ideas turned into actual scientific theory.

just to clarify scientific theory isn't just an idea someone has.

A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that is acquired through the scientific method and repeatedly tested and confirmed through observation and experimentation.

why do no flat earther comment on my posts, kind of makes posting discussions pointless.
I have that problem too.  I hope it's simply that they have no answer, maybe it's just me (us) ?
Should we collect these post and make a new thread: "The unanswerables" - maybe "The Untouchables"?

I LOVE this idea. I'm not patient t enough to do it though.

regardless it can be done on something taller so the same concept works. Now I'm waiting to find out how it works in a flat earth believers world, I'm not trying to use this to refute there beliefs I'm just trying to see how they explain it.

Flat Earth General / question about the suns vanishing point.
« on: January 13, 2016, 09:47:05 AM »
I got a question about the flat earth sun set. possibly I'm just not understanding a part of it. I'm sure its been discussed but I don't want to sift through piles of forum posts.

In the flat earth idea, the sun sets, because the sun gets far enough away that it goes out of sight. is that accurate?

When I lay on the beach and the sun sets it goes out of sight meaning it is X distance away which is the distance required for a bright object like the sun to go out of sight (in the flat earth model).
I then stand up and can see the sun again but I'm still the same distance away. How is this occurring?
like I said I'm probably just missing something in the flat earth sun set model.

So I guess no one is actually interested in testing there theories? that kind of defeats the purpose of stating anything that we do if we don't try and back it up with our own research.

I do enjoy reading the posts that I deem to be nonsense and having a laugh. I think I will take a more background approach to this site and use it as a form of entertainment and humour. I will probably only post if a topic comes up that I actually have an expert opinion on(which wont be often).

My question is what keeps you guys here commenting and refuting the FEers threads?

I think debate is fun and debating a topic is a great way to learn more about it.

I've been here a very short time and there refusal to acknowledge science and math makes it impossible to get anywhere.

Wait, you have actually provided science and math to support flat Earth?  Perhaps you could enter my challenge (linked in my forum signature) with it.

They only want to discuss things that support there ideas and anything that blatantly throws there idea out the window they either don't discuss and wont test.

When has that happened?  I always make a point to address everything directed at me, and I have done multiple tests.  I have never seen a test proposed by a flat earther relating to Earth's shape though.

uhh I think you misunderstood my first post. I'm a round earth believer saying those things about flat earthers.

Hello, I got a question for everyone who believes in the globe earth as I do, if your a FEer please move along.

My question is what keeps you guys here commenting and refuting the FEers threads? I've been here a very short time and there refusal to acknowledge science and math makes it impossible to get anywhere. Flat earthers, please there is no need to comment here, if you want to say something similar about globe earthers you can make your own thread.

You deserve hostility.

First, you dismiss flat earthers on the flat earth forum.
Second, you make sweeping statements about them.
Third, you repeat that fe'ers shouldn't comment and make their own thread instead.

To spell it out:

You are a rude little f**k.

Can you imagine how dull this forum would be if all opposed to FE just up and left?

Some of the trolls are tolerable. Some are not.

My intention was not to be rude. So I apologize for sounding like I was.

Yup.

I know a few.

Paid disruptors are banned immediately on them though...

So you'd be out on your ear.

I'm not understanding what your saying. I'm paid to disrupt this forum is your thinking?

They believe we are paid shills from government to help them keep everyone quiet about silly conspiracies involving the true shape of earth and mainstream science. (Yes I laughed while typing this).

holy smokes that is next level crazy. I wish I could paid to put posts on here.

I don't believe anyone would pay you for anything. Hope this clears it up.
