Title: The Earth is infinite!
Post by: Franc T., Planar on March 15, 2007, 04:07:02 AM
Why should the Earth be finite? Why should it have 924,375,700 km circumference? Why not 924,375,600 km or 924,375,800 km? Stop denying the obvious truth of the Infinite Planar Earth.

What you call "Earth" is only our local area, there are many other lands surrounding it, beyond the Ice Wall.

There is PureLand, where humans who are pure enough, through abstaining of drugs (most Round Earthers would be disqualified just by that criterion), drink, gambling or criminal activities, may enter and enjoy a life of felicity.

There is also the land of Structo, where corrupt humans pass on to live a life controlled by a central authority called The Computer. There, no one is free to do anything without approval from the relevant authority. People are conditioned to obey, obey, obey, and forget their own desires, even going so far as to kill their loved ones. It is a living hell filled with paranoia and self-hatred.

Finally, we know about something the Pagans called Summerland, which has a veil that can only be pierced by spirits. Since no one here is a spirit, its composition is as yet unknown.

There is also another land, which has only been explored by one person, Blanko the Wanderer. He writes in his journals of a land that consists of a single island surrounded by a vast sea, whose inhabitants call themselves the Paturas, and believe they are the only people existing in the universe. On this island, maize, fruits and vegetables erupt fully formed from vents in the ground. All the people there do is make bread and prepare meals from the raw materials erupting from these vents. Thus these people have never evolved- they barely have a language and know very little of tools, except those related to cooking. It is extremely peculiar.

Please understand that everything I say on this thread is 100% accurate. I am not a troll.

and beyond the impenetrable jungles of central Brazil lies the Emin Muil (more commonly known as the Andes Mountains) which only one man... half a man... actually there were two of them to let's say one man, has ever crossed! Into the land of Ankh-Morpork where the evil Lord Sour-Ron rules over his hordes of pigmy warriors from the impenetrable fortress of (mere mortals tremble at it's very mention) """"""THE ORANGE BUNGALOW"""""""!!!!!! FEAR THE WRATH OF THE SOUR-RON!! For he shall call down a mighty reckoning upon the non-believers and all the peoples of the land shall be forced to harvest liquourice all - sorts for all eternity!!!!!

Pureland? Sounds racist, you French fascisti nazi.

There are other strange, bizarre things on Earth. Some things would make you throw up until you die of dehydration (believe me, I have read some stories of wars in other lands that make Hitler look like a Boy Scout). Some other things are just incredible and amazing. But to be honest, most other lands out there are pretty mundane.

Given that the Earth is infinite, ANYTHING that can happen, does happen. However, most of it is too far away for us to ever know about it.

stop trolling.

I doubt Hitler could ever look like a boy scout (he was gassed twice in WW1 and survived dammit!) but I see what you mean.
I just can't see the Earth being infinate. The universe maybe (especially since we're apparently accelerating, as we would hit a roof at some point otherwise) but not Earth...Pure Land sounds a bit poncy...

Don't think PureLand is the easiest place to live in. People there are very peaceful and life is not as hard as it is in this land. However, their level of life is not as high as ours, and they have been subjected to some pretty horrible things (although not nearly as bad as others). Also, it's a one-way ticket: no one can ever leave.

What I am telling you is 100% as reported by the few explorers who go from land to land. The most well-traveled is Blinko the Wanderer, who traveled to (according to him) more than a hundred different lands, risking life and limb in many occasions. But there are many others. Also we have information from people who emigrated from faraway lands. Much of all this is rumour and hearsay, of course.

Believe me it is very possible to make Hitler look like a Boy Scout. Some events that have been reported about wars in other lands are engraved in my mind for eternity (such as the War of Eastern Aggression, as it is called in PureLand). There are places where people have even less conscience than humans. The things they can do to their enemies would be censored on this message board, or any message board, for their absolute horror.

I have obtained them from a good friend of mine who is part of a secret organization dedicated to spreading the word of these documents. However we cannot do it openly, since the government would label us terrorists or terrorist supporters. Some of their "arrests" were made because of this, and some of our members are in Guantanamo. Blinko the Wanderer comes from a land called Holy Grasslands, which was first colonized by emigrants from PureLand, who were illegally smuggled in by the PureLand government (it's not really a government, but that's the only term you'd understand).

The Holy Grasslands are mostly inhabited by a race of giant semi-sentient blades of grass. They are very peaceful beings and are worshipped by the emigrants as gods. They nourish themselves from metallic photosynthetic frames which grow nutrients off their bodies. The origin of these metallic frames is unknown, but it is theorized that they may have come from ancient religious rituals.

I am being serious. This is 100% accurate information. You gotta understand that, since the Earth is infinite, ANYTHING is theoretically possible. There must be lands out there that are just like ours, except the grass is blue. Or where Tom Bishop is a bipedal aardvark. Infinite possibilities. However, since lands seem to be dispersed randomly, it is very unlikely for us to find a land like ours anywhere near.

You have to somehow traverse the Ice Wall first. Due to the high technology available to the government, this is rather less feasible than it was in the past, and so more exploration of this land took place in the past than there is now (in fact, whole armies used to walk through this land). But if you can do that, and can maintain your secrecy, then you can pretty much explore the Earth as you desire.

Matter can not be infinite, because that would require the creation of new matter, and matter as most know can not be destroyed or created, just changed. The same with energy, which would also have to be created, or most of the "worlds" would be dead.

An infinite plane does not "require the creation of new matter." Infinite matter/energy has always existed.

Title: Re: The Earth is infinite!

And yet infinite matter/energy has always existed. It cannot be otherwise, since matter/energy cannot be created or destroyed, and the Earth must be infinite. Ergo you are wrong.  :o

And yet mathematically and scientifically it is the only possibility. Everything else is outright impossible.

Title: Re: The Earth is infinite!

Elaborate.

1. Matter/energy cannot be created or destroyed. Therefore it must be eternal.
2. The earth cannot be finite, because any given dimension would be infinitely improbable. The only sound possibilities are: either for the Earth does not exist, or it is unmeasurable, infinite. Since the Earth exists, it must be infinite.

"Infinite matter" is not a priori impossible. A finite Earth is.

Since FEers agree that gravitation exists,  then the overwelming mass of an infinite Earth would result in significant space-time curvature; significant enought for acceleration to be much greater than 9.81m/s/s in our localized area.

And since you believe that a round earth is a religion, and that a flat earth is science, I'm sitting here eagerly awaiting your scientific proof of these worlds, as you must have seen them with your own eyes... You were question grammar and spelling in a different thread, therefore you must have some passion.

Science is defined as:
1.   a branch of knowledge or study dealing with a body of facts or truths systematically arranged and showing the operation of general laws: the mathematical sciences.
2.   systematic knowledge of the physical or material world gained through observation and experimentation.
3.   any of the branches of natural or physical science.
4.   systematized knowledge in general.
5.   knowledge, as of facts or principles; knowledge gained by systematic study.
6.   a particular branch of knowledge.
7.   skill, esp. reflecting a precise application of facts or principles; proficiency.

Please explain where these beyond the great ice-wall words fit into this definition.

Elaborate.

1. Just because matter and energy are eternal, i does not exclude the possibility of there being a finite amount.
2. The Earth can be relativiely finite in dimensions due to gravitational "forces" (i.e. space-time curvature).

"Infinite matter" is not a priori impossible. A finite Earth is.
A finite earth is not at all impossible, even given the interesting circumstances you believe it exists in.  Let's assume that your statement is correct, that matter is infinite (which as another post states, is not a requirement of it being eternal), you also assume that it has to be on earth, which by your own theories is not the case, since there are celestial bodies orbiting the earth.  Additionally, we see a finite end of the earth on at least one side (the side that we inhabit), which would suggest it's the case after the "ice wall."

The Earth is infinite, but that does not preclude other quantities of matter from existing. Ever heard of aleph-zero, aleph-one, etc?

Infinite Earth requires infinite energy.  There is not infinite energy in the universe.

Someone hand this guy a dictionary.
I don't think he knows the meaning of "proof".
