Technology, Science & Alt Science / Possible virus? Video Issue
« on: November 28, 2010, 03:58:11 PM »
My...Er...Friend, who is a total dumbass, played a video on my computer as a prank. I am under the assumption it was meatspin because of the music.  A few seconds in, my computer restarted and the screen no longer works.

I have no clue what was played, or if its relevant, but I have never had a problem like this before and don't know where to start, aside from checking the connections, which are fine.

Arts & Entertainment / Gaming Controllers

Dont know if this is A&E or T&I, but seeing as the bulk of the gaming threads are in A&E, I'll make it here.

Discuss gaming controllers! Whats your favorite? Don't be shy now, you don't have to stick to a specific consoles controller. Just, gaming controllers.

Personally, the best controller I've used was the Madcatz Fan controller for the XBox, big style. I really liked that one...Kept my hands nice and cool for my twenty hour long gaming sessions that never really happened.

Technology, Science & Alt Science / Sharing Files via Ethernet
« on: November 16, 2010, 12:24:55 AM »
I just now got the smart idea of sharing the two computers me and my roommate have. Since mine is a laptop that pretty much stays stationary at the desk in the room, and his is a desktop. Really, the only good thing about his is the 1.5TB HDD, so I hooked my laptop up to the desktop via ethernet, and hooked his monitor up as a secondary monitor for my laptop.

By just now, mind you, I mean a few hours ago. I just now finished moving the files (it wasn't letting my laptop access the desktops account folders (Which are shared), so I just moved all the stuff we need to share out of the accounts folders.)

Now, a ton of this stuff is movies. I've never quite done anything like this, but am I to expect mass lag when streaming a movie via ethernet? Its a direct connection, no router involved. The processor on the desktop is better than the laptops, but not so much the RAM. I'm not sure if those even matter? Is there a way to reduce the lag aside from copying files back and forth?

Do you have any experience with sharing computers in this method? Any tips?

Currently, the laptop is running Win7, and the desktop/server is running WinXP. If I'm going to stick with Windows, I know I should probably get Home Server for the desktop, but will I be able to install that without losing the data I have now? Its quite an extensive library already...

The Lounge / Bodies in the lake!
« on: November 11, 2010, 03:36:33 PM »
Well, at least, we call it a lake. Its more just a huge pond. I know, I know, I live next to the Great Lakes and I've spent quite a bit of time at them as well, I shouldn't be calling something like this a lake at all. It just, doesn't feel right calling it a pond, because it's much bigger than any pond I've seen.

http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/25761918/detail.html

Body, lake, RIGHT ACROSS FROM MY HOUSE. No, I didn't kill her.

Edit- Just watched the video again. WTF? They keep calling it a lake and then they suddenly start calling it a pond. WHAT IS IT?!

Arts & Entertainment / Tales
« on: October 14, 2010, 06:10:32 AM »
What are your thoughts on these games?

By these, I mean the entire Namco Tales series, such as Tales of Legendia, Tales of Symphonia, etc. I forget the psx names, but I recall playing them a bit.

Currently, I'm playing Tales of Legendia. The first tales game I played was Symphonia. They are both pretty sweet. I've heard from several people that Legendia is a whopping pile of crap, but I have now decided that these are all fanboys who jumped on the wagon after the newer Tales games came out, because it seems to relate back to the PSX games more in style and gameplay.

I tried playing Tales of The Abyss. I haven't exactly dropped it completely yet, but its on hiatus till I finish Legendia, because its the far better game. The problem with Abyss is its like Symphonia, but not nearly enough like Symphonia.

Anyways, yea, give your thoughts on these anime filled games here.

No discussion of Tails allowed.

Suggestions & Concerns / Flatearther43
« on: October 07, 2010, 05:15:25 PM »
I hope I got the name right.

This poster is very extremely NSFW. I know what threads to stay away from when I'm posting in public places, or in my living room while I have family and children walking around.

When I open up a thread that Flatearther43 has posted in, I am bombed with vulgarities in size 99 font, for anyone walking by me, half blind or not, to see. This causes me to feel slightly uncomfortable browsing TFES at all in public places.

I'm sure many other people are annoyed by this behavior already. Can something please be done about it?

I just read something about New Game+? Might play that instead of cleaning up after everything...

Anyways, I HAVE TO KNOW, does anyone else here play it? I need an online buddy.

ANYONE WATCH IT YET?

ANYONE?

ANYONE?

It's a pretty good show. They pulled off a heist in the first episode! I think you should watch it. Its on HBO, tonight, at 9.

It has this guy in it,

Playing Enoch "Nucky" Thompson. The show is a fictional retelling of the life of Enoch "Nucky" Johnson, or something like that. Also based on a book? It also has Al Capone, and some other big names in it.

Everyone hates them, but they still have fun games.

I'm currently addicted to - http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/508440 TURTLE TOSS.

Its sweet, its your generic 'shoot the cute little animal of our choosing and see how far it goes' game, but its rather well done, with things that help you, better cannons to buy, jetpacks, rockets, nukes, guns, FUN.

Also, this thread is to discuss your favorite Newgrounds games.

i hate newgrounds, MOTHERFUH-YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Arts & Entertainment / Supernatural
« on: September 14, 2010, 09:11:40 AM »
Does anyone watch this?

Also, according to Wiki, theres like three shows called Supernatural. I'm talking about the one with Sam and Dean Winchester, the demon hunters. Not the nature show or whatever else the other two are.

I first caught an episode of it when I didn't have cable and was checking out what channels I did have. After, like, the first episode I watched I became bored with it.

I just started watching it again recently (They are playing through the whole series, as they are also doing with Bones and some other shows) and I've become addicted. It's an excellent show, and each episode usually starts out with some final destination type death from a ghost or a demon or whatever and its pretty funny.

Arts & Entertainment / Other M
« on: September 05, 2010, 06:51:23 AM »
Anyone playing/beat it? If you have no clue what Other M means, you obviously aren't...Also, new Metroid.

Anyways, I just got it today. My wii is modded so I'm having a bitsotrouble getting it to work, it keeps freezing at a certain scene,  but the gameplay is actually pretty sweet. The only thing that seems like it could bother me is shooting missiles is in first person like Prime, but everything else is similar to a 3D old Metroid, so if you want to shoot a missile you have to turn the controller to aim it at the screen and everything.

In Comp11 I did my essay on paranormal stuffs and describing them. I found it very fun surfing around the internet and looking around for this stuff.

I would have commented in your thread asking for help, but its in FEB forum, so I can't.

I'll help you a bit if you want. Just throw a few at me and I'll look into it. I might be a little slow because I DO have a life, but it will give me something to do instead of sitting around staring at VLC media player wondering what to do.

Arts & Entertainment / Scott Pilgrim
« on: August 23, 2010, 11:23:15 AM »
Has anyone seen the movie? Thoughts?

Read the books? Thoughts?

Played the game? Thoughts?

I haven't seen the movie yet, or played the game...I'm going to see the movie in a few hours though. Maybe play the game next month or so when I have money.

I have read the books...comics...mangas....Whatever you want to call them. I found them very enjoyable, and the only reason I'm going to see the movie is to see how well they held up to 6 volumes of comic books. I'm really not that big a fan of Michael Cera (despite almost all of his movies being good), so before someone got me reading the books I had no interest in this Scott Pilgrim nonsense.

I've also been listening to the games soundtrack. Chip music FTW. Its excellent, amazing music, by Anamanaguchi. I suggest giving it a listen if you like vidya game music. You could PM me if you have trouble finding it. Or the books.

Anyone play this?

I just found out about it last night. Got it, installed it, got some Prodigy, and HOLY POOPS its a TON of fun.

It uses your tracks on your comp to build the maps, kinda reminds me of that one beat game for PS2 that came out before GH.

I suggest you check it out. Prodigy is really fun on it, I haven't played any other bands so far.

Anyone interested in this? It looks worth saving my free IMAX3D pass for (instead of seeing not3D IMAX Inception, which I saw in regular theaters already), but it also doesn't because Tron comes out in December, but I'm sure I could get another pass by then...

Arts & Entertainment / My book
« on: May 27, 2010, 10:30:50 PM »
I need to start writing it already.

Here are my ideas so far.

The main protagonist is Snacks, yep, thats me!

The wise man that Snacks meets a little ways through the book, not long after Snacks starts his journey across the ice plains is going to be Roundy The Truthinessest. Roundy will help Snacks get to Earth, the conspiracy plane.

Conspiracy is not a part of the other planes of the Planar World. I could probably use a better name for this.

After getting to Earth, Snacks will meet Space Cowgirl. A crazed lady who thinks she is from space and farms cows. Space Cowgirl knows of the conspiracy, oddly (as it would mean that she knows being from space is not possible, maybe it's all a cover?) and introduces Snacks to the Flat Earth Society.

I'm not sure where to go from there.

Dann will be the Viking Kings general, of course.

Mugsy will be the Viking King, leader of a very large gang that poses as Vikings of ol', and could easily be considered Vikings of the present due to their gangs size. If only they tried to conquer more.

The Vikings will be minions of the Conspiracy. Hiding in plain sight in the Flat Earth Society, being the number one informant to the Hand Of Omega.

Robot penguins will have several encounters with Snacks, the first being while he is with Roundy.

Hand Of Omega will be controlled by an unknown being, who is actually rather well known.

Dino will appear; if only for a page, or maybe even a sentence.

If you do, or do not want to appear in this book, PLEASE let me know in this thread or a PM or at Arcacial at gmail dot c*pew pew* auuugggghhh! I'm dead!!

I need to know if you want a role. Everyone who gives me confirmation of a role allows me to create another chapter (at least) in the book, this allows for a better book with a stronger plot. When I do start writing it, I will update with a chapter by chapter as most books here have been updated. I may do several chapters at once as I prefer to write rather than type, so I will have to copy over what I have written, and edit it.

The plot will be that Snacks is sick of the Hand Of Omega (Conspiracy) using his people (Of...Urth?) for mineral harvesting. Everyone in Urth (?) is treated as a slave, there are no rich people and there are no poor people. All anyone does is mine, mine, mine. Someday they will reach the bottom of the planar world and answer questions that the Hand of Omega is still pondering about. Snacks takes an opportunity to break free from the slavery (Who offers this opportunity and how? I wonder...) and leave Urth to find the Hand Of Omegas HQ. On his way, he discovers the Flat Earth Society in Earth, and several other Planar territories.

So,

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT A PART IN MY BOOK. Please also inform me if you have any ideas for my book. I will take everything into consideration, but I cannot garuntee that it will be a part. I want this to be professional, not too silly, and CONVINCING. Let me know which Planar Territory you want to be in. If you want, you can name it too, but I will be considerate on the names, if you give me something absolutely silly I most likely will not go with it, unless it strikes my fancy.

Arts & Entertainment / DOS Games
« on: May 25, 2010, 10:43:25 PM »
So, I was looking around at DOS games just now, and stumbled across this

Discworld

It's an adventure game too, just like the style of Monkey Island and Simon the Sorcerer...I've seen Discworld mentioned here a few times, so I thought I would maybe spark someones memory or show you something new.

DOS games are win, if you don't like them STFU and GTFO my thread.

Also, the title is DOS games, so go ahead and suggest more for me to try out, as I'm currently looking.
