I've put over 13,000 posts into FES. I know FET as well as anyone here. And yet I'm also shunned by the establishment. Don't take it personally. When they pick Jroa over me, you know they haven't got a clue.

Yes, I have been drinking. Th*rk you all!  >o<

Please, tell us more about how much you have contributed.
There was a time when FES hinged around my very presence. Fortunately I don't need that any more and I post way less. I was one of the best God damn trolls on the internet.  >o< there were reddit threads about me,  land over baptist and david icke forums would pm me regularly to get me to defect, noobs would read about me and come to FES to try and get one over one me. You only really saw the arse end of my narcissistic reign of terror. Lucky if I spent 30 mins a day on FES now. Mostly down to how bad the site is run.

And I invented the rage smiley!  >o<

What have you contributed?

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

I normally like Guillermo Del Toro's movies, and I liked this one. I just saw it today in 3D, and I was entertained. However, I have heard a bunch of hype about it supposedly breaking the cycle of endless remakes and sequels with an original idea, but I found it to be pretty formulaic. I mean it's cool that humans were able to fight off an alien threat without some superhero and on their own, but it seemed very predictable. I mean the black guy sacrificed himself and everything, come on.

Recently got into John Scalzi's books, I'm on Zoe's Tale, I think the series (beginning with Old Man's War) is excellent.

I'm aware that it's going to be terrible, but I still want to see the shit out of this movie.
That's the spirit!

This movie is why I do the complete opposite of critics' reviews. I don't care if it's good, I care if I'm entertained, and I think I will be with this movie.

I've been told that I should like this show... I watched about half of the first episode and got bored, there was nothing funny about it. People then told me that the first episode was all about introducing the characters, and I should give it another shot, so I might.

The Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson. I think it's cool how he has his characters use magic, but he makes up hard rules as to how that magic operates. He did the same thing with Warbreaker. He's a pretty good fantasy writer, check him out.

I could see myself liking it, if i gave it a chance.

I tend to judge shows like that harshly on the first couple episodes I watch. Like The IT Crowd. I thought it was terrible. I've seen 3 episodes, and I just had to turn it off. And Arrested Development, I've heard the world over how great it is, but I just don't see it.

I think my problem is that modern comedy tends to thrive on making people uncomfortable, and I hate that.
I thought the IT crowd was horrible until about episode 3 or 4.

So I should give it another shot? Does it really get that much better?

According to IMDB, the villain is Khan in Into Darkness. I want to see it so bad...

I've got AT&T Uverse with 18Mb download speed. I've been meaning to switch to Comcast, but I'd have to buy a router.

I can't wait for Google Fiber to get to Houston...

I've only seen one episode, and I wasn't impressed. It seemed like one of those shows that's a lot funnier when your friends are around, if that makes any sense.

Haven't seen it, but I don't doubt it. I just can't stand sitcoms, the laughtracks just kill me.

Arts & Entertainment / Season 3 Syndrome
« on: May 05, 2013, 05:38:27 PM »
This is a phrase I've coined, and it's way too common. It is used when a TV show becomes pretty popular, and then, after it is well-established, it gets weird.

The best example I can give is Andromeda. The whole Abyss storyline and the philosophical crap they tried to introduce was just stupid.

Another example is Lost. It got really stupid after the third season.

My point is, a lot of shows tend to "try to reinvent themselves" after the third season, and it goes wrong most of the time. So many times, I've found myself hating a show during season 3.

I think they're setting up a pretty sweet ending to this season. Clara knows his real name now (I know she was supposed to forget it, but I know it will come up again) and I've heard that the finale to this season will resolve the whole 'impossible girl' thing. This gon' be good.

Technology, Science & Alt Science / Fiber splicing
« on: April 27, 2013, 04:56:33 PM »
We had a guy from Comcast come in to my work today to terminate a new fiber line for the business, and he was cool enough to show us the whole process and explain everything. I didn't get to see much of the prep work, but it's pretty much gradually stripping off the outer layers, and organizing the wires in a way that would allow you to easily pull back more slack in case it's needed later.

He installed a box in one of our network racks, and connected short pre-terminated fiber wires to the inside of the relay that would eventually connect to our networking equipment. The other side of these wires are what was getting spliced to the cable that leads outside the building.

Once he got the ends down to the bare fiber, he used a cleaving tool to get a good edge that could be easily spliced. After this, he told us that you are supposed to use really pure alcohol to clean the ends of the wire, but he just used his fingers after wiping them on his jeans...

The machine he used to actually splice the wires together is really cool. You load the wires into it facing each other to where they almost meet in the middle, close the lid, and it does the rest. It uses tiny cameras to precisely align the two ends, maneuver them to where they are just barely touching, then the electrodes heat them up and fuse them together. #" class="bbc_link" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">This video is pretty close to what it's like. You see pictures of the ends as they are lined up, a bright light, then it's just one cable. It displays the estimated signal loss after it's done, this guy got 0.01 and 0.00 dB loss on the two I watched.

To secure the splice, he put this sleeve of 'shrink wrap' around it, placed it into a mini-oven that was part of the machine for a few seconds, and it's done.

I thought it was pretty cool. I took a short course in how to terminate fiber, but we didn't have anything that high-tech.

Everyone knows that everyone dies. No one moreso than the Doctor.
But once in a while. Once in a very long while...
The wolf fails to PM me.
And nobody dies at all.

It's a bold strategy, Cotton, let's see if it pays off for him.

I've watched every episode since the '05 reboot, and I'm riveted, although I shouldn't be. I often find myself saying "wow, that's pretty convenient" at the resolution of an episode, and I think that the whole "can't we all just get along" strategy shouldn't work out as well as it does. That said, it's damn addicting, and I love it.

???

Gold has regained half of its value already this week. You know, its not actually possible to buy gold physical right now? The demand for physical is insane and dealers are running $100 premiums on orders. The price has dropped because the FED dropped $24billion of paper gold onto the market in one go, the IMF suggested Cyprus had to sell its gold and Goldmann Sachs told everyone else it would be shorting gold for that week.
Somewhat artificial don't you think?
What is happening is the FED and Goldmann Sachs are manipulating the market to suppress gold prices so that toilet paper you call the dollar is still worth something despite the QE. But the dollar will let go. That's a certainty and all you will be left with is a pile of worthless paper.

Romney is winning by a landslide

He is.

I'm into season 4 of my re-watch of Voyager. Kes was OK, but I don't think they developed her character enough. It was 'here's a couple episodes that show how much potential she has' then HOLY SHIT I'M ASCENDING. Just weak IMO. I do like 7 of 9 (and not only for the fantastic rack). She's like Tuvok, but with the potential to become more human. I do, however, feel like they use her as a deus ex machina when they need an explanation for some plot device. Oh, some insurmountable obstacle has presented itself? Let's just use some Borg tech 7 remembered to fix it all!

I don't think Rushy hates the game enough to try to end it like that, so he's obviously lying. Which leaves the question of whether it's a single, double, or triple bluff. I don't think he's smart enough to do a double bluff, let alone a triple, so I'm gonna say it's a single bluff.

Let's not trust anything he says.

I vote for General Disarray. Nobody else has yet, and I want to be non-conformist.
