THE Home Secretary has said she wants to create a “Panopticon” system of state surveillance.

Shabana Mahmood revealed that she wanted a system where “the eyes of the state can be on you at all times” while invoking an enduringly controversial proposal by the 18th-century philosopher Jeremy Bentham.

In comments reported on Monday by The Telegraph, Mahmood said she wanted to use artificial intelligence for surveillance, as she proposed “Minority Report-style” policing.

“AI and technology can be transformative to the whole of the law and order space,” said the Home Secretary in an interview with former prime minister Tony Blair last month.

“When I was in justice, my ultimate vision for that part of the criminal justice system was to achieve, by means of AI and technology, what Jeremy Bentham tried to do with his Panopticon. That is that the eyes of the state can be on you at all times.

“Similarly, in the world of policing, in particular, we’ve already been rolling out live facial recognition technology, but I think there’s big space here for being able to harness the power of AI and tech to get ahead of the criminals, frankly, which is what we’re trying to do.”

I'm sure we've got this sort of thing happening in the US too.

Don't think I want to live in a Panopticon.
I'm sorry. Am I to understand that when you have a boner you like to imagine punching the shit out of Tom Bishop? That's disgusting.

Kabool, I do not think anyone on the left is for progress. Progressive is something they identify as, and then anything they propose is progress.

Pelosi and Schumer are on the left. Just because you don't like them, doesn't change that they're platforms are on the left. Besides insider trading (which is how most of these people become truly wealthy after elected) name a rightwing policy either of them have promoted. They are on the left on climate/environment, social justice, LGBT, and healthcare.

no
the are to the left of the right.
but the are not "Left".
they are "The Major Party" that is left of the right.
but they are not "Left".
Democrats are democratic but are not democracy and funny enough nor are they demoractic.

they virtue signal to the minority
vote grabbers
but they don't promote policy, they conveniently fail at policy.
their job is to win just enough.

that's why turmp will maga

She might have at least had a go at explaining why she thinks this is necessary, because I don’t think many people will be keen.

A state-funded computer game is warning teenagers that they risk being referred to a counter-terrorism programme if they question mass migration.
Pathways is an interactive game designed for 11- to 18-year-old pupils and funded by Prevent, a Home Office programme for tackling extremism.
Young players are directed to help their in-game characters – a white teenage boy and girl – to avoid being reported for “extreme Right-wing ideology” after discussing migration online.
Characters can face extremism referrals if they choose to engage with groups that spread “harmful ideological messages”, or join protests against the “erosion of British values”. Even researching online immigration statistics is portrayed negatively.
Other in-game pitfalls include sharing a video that claims Muslim men, rather than homeless veterans, are being given emergency accommodation.
An in-game meter monitors how extreme the character’s behaviour is. Those who “lose” may be given counselling to deal with “ideological thoughts” or referred to an anti-terrorism expert.
The game was developed with government backing by councils in East Yorkshire over growing concerns about immigration and tensions about migrant accommodation in their communities.

https://krcrtv.com/news/nation-world/florida-police-defends-sending-detectives-to-womans-house-over-fb-post-critical-of-mayor-chief-megyn-kelly-gop-first-amendment

Quote
WASHINGTON (TNND) — The police chief of Miami Beach issued a statement last week and defended detectives going to the home of an activist in Florida over a social media comment she wrote that was critical of the mayor.

The video of the incident went viral on the social media platform, X, of a woman filming detectives coming to her house to ask her about her “inflammatory” social media post about Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner.

The Facebook comment from the account Raquel Pacheco reads, “The guy who consistently calls for the death of all Palestinians, tried to shut down a theater for showing a movie that hurt his feelings, and REFUSES to stand up for the LGBTQ community in any way (even leaves the room when they vote on related matters) wants you to know that you’re all welcome here.”

In the video posted, a detective shows Pacheco the Facebook comment and asked if that was her account.

“I refuse to answer questions without my lawyer present,” she answered.

The detective said she wasn’t going to jail, but “the concerning part for the person who’s posting itwe’re just trying to prevent if somebody else getting agitated or agreeing with the statement.”

She handled it perfectly. Her post did not break the law in any way. If the mayor thinks she is lying about him, he has the option to sue her, he never should have sent the police to her house over that post. He has abused his position and I hope they do not reelect him.

similarly this YT lawyer vlogger has a handful of such examples of abuse of power.
there was one i can't find it but the police harassed the man to no end.
kept pulling him over for "inspection" and "wellfare" cehcks in the middle of the night etcetc.

this is the problem with unions, lobby, special interest groups, etcetc.
refusal to hold your own to accountability dilutes/ poisons the reputation of the group as a whole.

"we policed our selves and found ourselves to have done no wrong"
really?
really?

this is where the ACAB plays into local sherifs dept the deputies are all nepoties (eh? eh? eh? see what i did there?)
and if the group is beholden to election fundraising they're always going to serve the $ class.
and if the group is beholden to local fines for funding they're going to naturally game the system and you see predatory fines of locals and civil forfeiture confiscations of outoftownplates.

it's funny how teachers unions are "the worst" but such police unions keep getting more.

Genesis 27
Isaac answered Esau, "I have made him lord over you and have made all his relatives his servants, and I have sustained him with grain and new wine. So what can I possibly do for you, my son?"
38
Esau said to his father, "Do you have only one blessing, my father? Bless me too, my father!" Then Esau wept aloud.
39
His father Isaac answered him, "Your dwelling will be away from the earth's richness, away from the dew of heaven above.
40
You will live by the sword and you will serve your brother. But when you grow restless, you will throw his yoke from off your neck."
41
Esau held a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing his father had given him. He said to himself, "The days of mourning for my father are near; then I will kill my brother Jacob."

Is anybody going to be held to account for creating this game?

I mean it was commissioned by Hull City council in 2023, so apart from being laughed at, I don't see much happening now.

The "game" is basically just a slightly interactive Powerpoint.  It may well be shit, misguided and very cringe but I'm not sure what you want to happen?

Anyway, if it's purpose was to convince a teenager that being a bit racist would mean the cute e-girl in class would hang out with him, then it's done it's job.

However I'm glad you are so locked on to a city council in a country you've never even visited being held to account for cringey powerpoints. Yet don't feel anyone should be held account for shooting someone in the back in your own country.  Shows you have your priorities sorted.

Heh, hes got you there Torve.

How do you guys feel about worshipping Bill Gates like a deity during covid when it turns out he's just a child rapist.

I get it, just because our elites get together to rape (and possibly torture and kill) children on an island it DOES NOT, I REPEAT, DOES NOT mean we shouldn't trust them with our health. How could anyone ever claim they dont just want what best for us.

Edit.

Seriously you guys have to stop these witch hunts and outrageous conspiracy theories against child rapists.

Mandelson is disgraced, booted out of the Labour party, booted out of the House of Lords, and the case has been referred to the police.  He was already fired as ambassador after the last release of documents.  If he  passed on sensitive government information as it appears, he belongs in jail.

Starmer’s judgement is very much in question. It’s pretty obvious that Mandelson was appointed precisely because he is the kind of sleaze bag comfortable with swimming in the cesspit of money and power with the sleaze bags he’d have to deal with.

This might well be the final straw for Starmer.  Good chance he’ll be replaced before too long.  Others have far serious questions to answer though, even just going on the limited and heavily redacted information we have.

Millions of documents and the DOJ say they don’t have enough to investigate anyone else involved in this massive underage girl trafficking operation.  Yeah, right.  Perhaps we can start with how he got such a cushy sentence after being busted?

I thank you for a thoughtful contribution.

I always like to ask the question "why?".

Why does this happen?

Why does Stormer commit such a monumental unforced error?

I have a couple of theories.

#1 Stormer doesn't really care. He's not interested in politics. He just yeah whatever. He is focused on other things, like embezzlement, money laundering, making farmers commit suicide and causing general mayhem. Stems from being a psychopath.

#2 Everybody close to Stormer hates him. So when a question like this comes along they all clam up. Nobody mentions what they saw on google. Just, please let him do it, please let him do it. Stems from people having experienced interacting with a psychopath.

#3 A combination of the two.

and yet spectacularly you've gone to the effort of calling out UKers here, yet, yet, yet aren't you team of law-and-order?

2days now - what does trump bring of value (value-to-the-people, not value-to-his-own personal 4-7B$)?

In the UK powerful people are actually being brought down by the Epstein scandal.  Losing jobs, titles and entire reputations. It's likely to take our prime minster down, despite his only tangential connection to the whole thing.

Yet in America all these rich and powerful men are still just walking around rich and powerful with absolutely fuck all in repercussions.   Nobody has been brought down.

And we need to get our house in order?

Yes you do, and myopia is not the way.

J Epstein is neither the beginning nor the end of the world's problems.

You have a psychopath for a PM, who is wantonly speedrunning the country into disintegration. The ruling party is guilty of perpetrating a crime against humanity on what is supposedly their own nation. The government holds the door open for roving hordes of parasites who enter the country for the purposes of rape and plunder.

Get your fargin house in order and can the whataboutisms.

Not entirely sure.  I suspect he thought it was a good idea to send a sleaze bag into the lions den.  Or he might have been talked into it by McSweeney.

I do think he’s basically decent (at least not completely corrupt), but not very good at some things he needs to be good at.  What’s odd is that schmoozing with the likes of Trump and other world leaders is one of the things I think he’s done pretty well at in very difficult circumstances.  So making a massive blunder in this area seems uncharacteristic.  It’s not what I thought would bring him down.
