Overzealous spam protection
« on: June 19, 2023, 04:30:57 AM »
I know it is great to have anti-spam filter, but if it has false positives it can make the site unusable; as well as causing ethical concerns for collecting emails and falsely claiming they are spam.

I have tried posting and it says:
"CleanTalk: *** Forbidden. Please enable JavaScript. Message seems to be spam. ***"

What were you trying to post? A lot of links?
I'm sorry. Am I to understand that when you have a boner you like to imagine punching the shit out of Tom Bishop? That's disgusting.

I hate to ask such a painfully obvious question, but was your javascript off?

Well I just tried to post a link to Biden saying "God save the Queen" and that is apparently spam too.

What were you trying to post? A lot of links?
Nope. Just my standard crap against Skepti.

Not a single link, just a lot of quotes. Including responding to multiple posts.

I hate to ask such a painfully obvious question, but was your javascript off?
No it was not. Far too much of the internet relies on JS these days for me to do that.
Additionally, Adblock was not blocking anything.

However, in the console, I do occasionally see things like:
"Uncaught ReferenceError: smc_Toggle is not defined"

And it isn't uncommon for the smiles and rich text formatting stuff to not appear above the post window.

I just looked at it in the admin cp, and I don't understand why it is blocking posts from existing accts. I will read their website, and see if I can figure it out.

I think JD will have to log into the cleantalk control panel, go into settings, find the log of your blocked post, and click on "not spam".

This is correct; I can whitelist your account next time I'm on my laptop.

Jura, yasoo and yourself are now whitelisted. Let me know if it happens again and I'll find a more aggressive option. It worries me this solution requires manual interaction and monitoring. That's what its meant to solve and I still plan on disappearing for an extended time.

Can it be set to automatically whitelist people with more than 100 posts?

Thanks.

Hopefully it has some setting to automatically not check people after some threshold. Otherwise I wonder about the impact on things like bandwidth and server load.

I wonder if there is a way to only check new registrations in the settings? Like, I can't figure out why it is blocking some posts with legitimate links, but not others. Why would it care if someone like Jack fisks the shit out of a post? lol

I would be surprised if it got to the point that it affected server load or bandwidth.

I don't believe so.

Yeah that's supposed to be possible. I'll double check that's what its set to.

Edit: checked. its set to registrations as it should be. No other settings seem present to stop it on posts.

It does look like its set to check messages from new members. Which I suppose it believes is everybody. On the other hand, not having this set might let things through.

I've got it! Set the spam filter to replace any link it thinks is spam with a link to Wise's complete master workings.

You could always try unchecking the one that checks messages from new users and we can see what happens. Even if it lets some spam through, we can deleted it like we have been. Maybe it just needs time to get to know all of us!
