I'm back b*tches
« on: February 10, 2023, 02:42:12 PM »
I have been active on this forum some 8 years ago, some of the old folks (heiwa, jeranism, sandokhan, ...) may still remember me, if they are still active. At some point life caught up to me and I did not have free time to spend on this forum. In the meantime I have managed to pursue a dream of mine and did a PhD in astrophysics; my time on this forum actually had some impact on that decision, so if anyone still remembers, thank you for the discussions! I have recently seen the documentary 'behind the curve', which actually features some of the people here, so I decided to check whether y'all still exist.

That being said, your model can go kick rocks. I am sure you will not believe me, since now I am part of the paid shill scientists, but let me say a few words regarding academia: First off, our pay is by far not good enough to ensure silence. I was earning 1300 euros per month during my PhD living in Germany, and literally all of my friends who left academia after their master's make twice my salary. I have now talked to hundreds of astrophysicists, from students to professors, and so far I could not detect a single whiff of a conspiracy regarding the shape of the earth. Also, while there is a large collaborative spirit, disproving something that is widely accepted is the white whale of most scientists that I talked to, I doubt they would wait very long if they had conclusive evidence that our solar system model is wrong.

Our model of the Universe is _incredibly_ successful, and has been long before anyone even thought about space travel. For example, general relativity was detected because the orbit of mercury deviates by 0.01 degrees in 100 years (!) from the predictions of newtonian gravity. The planet Neptune was discovered because the orbit of Uranus showed some deviations that could only be explained by the existence of another planet. And even regarding the Universe: Right now we are having a 'crisis in cosmology', because one of the values of our Model deviates by 5%, depending on whether we measure how it was 300.000 years after the big bang vs now (~14 billion years after big bang). Compare that to a model that can not even explain sunsets, or distances on half of the earth.

I have conducted observations of galaxies myself, and seen many of our telescopes with my own eyes. I have yet to find any inconsistency in the data that could arise from it being fabricated. All things considered, your model, with all the assumptions that go into it, including a worldwide conspiracy where hundreds of thousands of people of all factions (including nazi germany, the soviet union and the USA) just decide to not say anything without having skin in the game or being rewarded for their silence in a meaningful way, is utterly ridiculous. The one rebuttal 'but it looks flat' is very, very weak, considering the mountains of evidence.

Just my 2 cents.

Stay safe, everyone! :)

Welcome back kami.

I shall leave it to better scientists than myself to debate the shape of the earth. In the meantime I'd like to offer you our assistance in choosing an avatar.

While 8 years may be considered by some to be too short a time to find your own style on such matters we have many talented individuals who specialize in such things.

Pretty sure Heiwa is dead at this point.

Likely.
Rabinoz RIP

That would put you in the same category as pedophile perverts like John Davis, NSS, robots like Stash, Shifter, and victimized kids like Alexey.

Fair point with the avatar. I'll be taking suggestions!

Heiwa's disappearance is sad.. he was very fun to engage with. Hope he is fine! But I am happy to see that a lot of people are still online :)

I was going for the whole 'gravity' thing.

Here's one:

Yeah, a little concerned about Heiwa. Usually, when his ban has expired he's right back at it with his challenges.

Were you the one who worked out the math for gravity on an infinite plane?
I'm sorry. Am I to understand that when you have a boner you like to imagine punching the shit out of Tom Bishop? That's disgusting.

I think it was not only me, someone else arrived at the same result with a different method. But yes, at some point I uploaded some calculations for this.

I've posted almost everyday from may 2021 to now (except the summer cause that's when I'm on summer break) and even though your account is older, I have more posts lol.
Who are you? I'm not old enough to know who you are.

I was active here many, many years ago. I used to be a bored math student, now I am a bored astrophysicist ;)
I am just here for fun and, just maybe, help some people understand the amazing Universe we live in :)

Ooh, that sounds nice.
What is that exactly? My Grandafather was a scientist but I clearly have a lower Iq than him and also am mentally retarded.

I don't believe that part, if you are really 14 you appear to be quite bright :)

I can always recommend Cosmos by Carl Sagan for people that are interested in this, it is a bit older but absolutely amazing, and Sagan was prophetic in many, many regards. Here is the first episode :

Yes, I really am 14. Possibly being the youngest user here.

Welcome back! That said, the only reasonable model is the non-euclidean model. This is likely while you are foolishly mistaken into believing such a ludicrous idea as a round earth.

Thank you! Can you point me to where I could read up on that model?
