Am I the only one here who watches any kind of sport? (Flatnesseverywhere doesn't count, he's just annoying)

Any sport, just curious?

Ah, now this is more like it - sports talk!!

I love all sorts of sport. My main sports are Rugby League, Cricket, AFL, Rugby Union and any sort of motorsport.

Having said that, I'll pretty much watch anything that's on.

I've also found a new interest in Soccer (football), although I claim innocence to bandwagon jumping, I really don't live in a big football area, so I wasn't really exposed to it much growing up, and our City lost our crappy soccer team to bankrupcy back in the 90's so there wasn't really a team to follow.

That's not football!  The thought of you guys thinking that "soccer", a game that is played primarily by kicking a ball around with your foot, is really "football" is preposterous.  American football is real "football", because we primarily use our hands throughout the game and only use our feet during possession changes and scoring a few points.

Duh, get it right, you ignorant people   .

DOUBLE POST OF FIST!  (punch)

I love basketball (I'm six feet, two inches), and I'll play any street variant of football, basketball, soccer, and inline hockey (I've only been able to play the very last option twice, and oh man was it ifun).  Baseball is for targets.

I forgot to mention K-1.  Man, that is TEH SHIT.

Being in the USA, I can't say much for Rugby, or cricket, and I'm not entirely sure of what you mean by AFL. I have however played rugby, video game, but not many people in my neighborhood will be willing to play rugby, go figure, it was fun, but confused me sometimes, and I sucked, which is never good. Soccer's awesome, I really wish I could play soccer (I'd call it football, but I know the 2 for their seperate names, sorry) those guys are very impressive, running around for 45 minutes, for a 15 minute break, then 45 more minutes, and against competitors who are at a high skill level, very impressive, wish I was good at that. Motorsports keep me entertained, but there's so damn many of them, I can't keep up with them all.

I love sport.  I've played almost every sport that you can play in Australia - AFL, soccer, cricket, volleyball, tennis, table tennis, athletics, touch football, hockey, badminton and some others.

The only sport I play now is freestyle footbag (sometimes incorrectly called "Hacky Sack") - which is probably the most physically demanding sport that I've played, but also a great deal of fun. (I sweat more from 5 minutes of footbag, than I do from a 6km run).

The only sport I really watch on tv at the moment is cricket - which I think is one of the best sports around, and I'm often tempted to start playing again.

I also play a lot of chess and pool - both of which I've been trying to get a lot better at lately.

Eh...I'm not really a sports kinda guy, for obvious reasons (don't exactly have the body structure for it, much less the motivation to become talented at participating in unnecessary barbarism). Too many hobbies, too little time, I suppose. And as for watching it on television, I definitely don't have enough time for that. I barely get to watch all the shows I want on TV as it is (and those that I do like to watch--mainly on the Discovery and History channels) I have to record on DVR (digital video recorder). Hell, I didn't even watch the Superbowl a couple days ago, save a few minutes of commercials.

Because its just lame, i never siad it isnt a good sport but all the facets of it seem to be have taken from other games and then they add armour so they dont get hurt??

AFL does equal Australian Football League - try running from one end of a 180 metre field then meeting another bloke in the middle who has done the same and having a high speed clash.....without armour....thats good watching!!

QFT

ALthough that's only a single encounter in a match. These guys run ridiculous distances over the course of the game.

The best hits are in the rugbies. Big (but fit and athletic) men hitting each other as hard as they can - not a helmet or shoulder pad in 50 km's

The best hits in AFL result in a 4 week suspension. Honestly, tackling between the crutch and shoulders - what's that about? you cant ever tackle around the legs. What a joke. Plaus you need a bigger stature for the really big hits.

Note, quix, that I said rugbies, not specified league.

Depends, in the US, you either love it or could care less about it. Last year the world cup, all of the groupings and everything, got a lot of publicity and stuff, so if we (US) would've done good, we'd probably have a much bigger fan base, but it's fine.

untrue. we would have had one more reason to act superior, get drunk, and cheer. And a week later, back to nothing. Their trying for like the fifth or so attempt at a soccer franchise in Detroit. i wonder how fast it will fold this time? I dunno... i think MLS actually might have a foothold this time. And good. Soccer isnt as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. Although the field could be smaller, and they COULD have more hitting...

Why make the field smaller, after all these years of having it that size, and soccer has tons of hitting, ever heard of a headbutt?

As pathetic as it is, it's true, the death of someone could help soccer greatly in the US, Lamar Hunt. He's known for starting the AFL (American Football League) which merged with the NFL that you all know and hate, but he also helped start the MLS, and since a lot of people knew him for the AFL, they read about his life and heard about it because he was such an influence on american sports, and they could've found out about his MLS starting, and who knows, maybe they didn't even know we had soccer in the US?

hey... you said you all hate... i just assumed u really meant ALL. Sorry. :?

Well, the majority is what I should've said, but typing is so hard, that I just had to shorten it up, as to not injure myself :D

Quote from: "DFM"
Neways, i know absolutely about soccer. So i don't know what a pitch is. I know hockeys surface is smaller than the international... so... go hockey. I just think making the field smaller would make me happy... on account of me not liking to turn my head so much. And Cuz seeing people run into each other might be more fun on a smaller field. I just think more violence needs to be incorporated into soccer to make it more mainstream quicker. BLOOD BLOOD BLOOD!

Pitch=field in soccer terminology (I learned almost all of what I know from FIFA games)

There's such thing as indoor soccer, I don't know about where you live, but there used to be a proffesional league of indoor soccer here. They played in the exact same field size as a hockey rink (placed turf over it) and it was awesome, but it didn't produce enough profits, so it sucked and had to quit, I loved it, but not for hitting. I like fast paced stuff like that, which is why I also like AFL (Arena Football league), playing football on a basketball sized field, it's awesome.

In league you can still shoulder charge. 'Nuff said.

Yeah, our guys get suspended for dumping someone on their head, your guys get suspended for pushing a dude in the chest with his elbow.

Georgie has some good hits, don't get me wrong (another point for the rugbies  :P ) but you can't say the old battles between Chief Harrigan and Trevor Gillmeister, or Sonny Bill's monster hits, or big mal's crushing tackles weren't awesome.
