I don't think I don't see you Jane.
I'm not here but Doctor Who compels me.

I don't think Tennant's back in response to ratings, I think it's just that asking a brand new Doctor to headline the 50th is a heck of an ask. May as well bring back the most iconic modern iteration.

Era thoughts, broad strokes: I think it had promise to start with. A few good ideas, fantastic cast of guest-writers, some messiness but clearly just inexperience with running a writer's room. It had the potential to improve. Chibnall just looks like he had the wrong response and rather than learn from his mistakes and keep going with what he wanted to do, he completely pivoted to bombastic, popcorn flick entertainment that was never his strength. Flux/specials were rarely boring, but they were too packed to be anything memorable. Power of the Doctor had, like, five episodes worth of plot crammed into one, and they were good ideas, they just didn't get a chance to breathe.

Look at the newest shitfest about to come out - Indiana Jones 5. They want to do some time traveling shenanigans to kill of Indy and replace him with some chick instead ::)
So Disney want to squeeze money out of a franchise because they get more brand recognition and can sell more tickets and merch that way, and know Ford can't stay in the role indefinitely, so they want to replace him with a new character rather than recasting (Which, after the AI-ghouls on Star Wars, I respect) to allow for more stories in that universe. And rather than an identical character, they considered casting (for the record - they filmed multiple endings to IJ5, you're describing one of many. That took about ten seconds to fact-check) someone whose dynamics would allow for different stories as opposed to stock repeats.
You could criticize capitalism for wringing a franchise until it's begging for death, or wokeness for trying to not just do more of the same. Wonder which your priority is.

Anyway recently I watched a Doctor Who episode which vocally supported feminism and insisted pollution was a problem and that we ought to do something about it, and even one character who was willing to be violent in the name of that goal was treated sympathetically. I can't believe the show went so woke in, er, January 1974.
We all know deep in our hearts that Jane is the last face we'll see before we're choked to death!

I never even thought of Doctor Who as being particularly woke. Most shows that stay on for a long time will have some social justice elements now and then, and be a reflection of the politics of the time.
I'm sorry. Am I to understand that when you have a boner you like to imagine punching the shit out of Tom Bishop? That's disgusting.

It's not about the female main character as much as it is about everything just being naked propaganda now.

This is exactly what I'm talking about.

Here we see Aliens, a goddamn masterpiece.  A lesser writer would have just taken a generic action movie template and did a gender swap.

But in Aliens, especially the extended edition, we see that it's her maternal instincts that drive her to do seemingly heroic and wreckless things.

What they wrote for her wouldn't have worked with a man.

My point is there is no such thing as "woke" in movies.  There's only bad writing.

I disagree, when you go out of the way to add the meaningless detail of someone's gender identification or sexual orientation, that has no actual bearing to the movie plot into the storyline, your in a woke movie.

Jommy wommy!

How the book doing Jommy?

Could you give a link to some of the reviews.

As Far as Dr Who is concerned I remember watching from the very first series. It was amazing, that music created by the BBC sonic workshop or whatever they were called was and still is epic. It really delivered.

Over the years it had some really good characters and fantastic doctors; like Tom Baker and Peter Davidson till Colin Baker who was the first pretty weak Doctor and Sylvester McCoy was not much better. Christopher Eccleston was a breath of fresh air as was David Tennant who redefined the role. Though no matter how good the doctor is its the script and direction that will make or break it. The problem now as its has been for the past several years is the writing like much of British TV is bollocks. It's just the same old same old crap that is continually churned out by the same people. Writing for TV is really difficult and something a number of writers in the USA have really got right. Some of the TV to emerge from the USA in the past few years is superb; The Wire, The Sopranos, Better Call Saul, along with comedy shows like The Big Bang Theory that had some examples of clever epic writing.

Dr. Who is a great concept but it needs a complete re-boot with fresh ideas and new writers. Im not sure if having Dr Who as a man or a woman, black or white really matters a toss. Think of Star Trek and the spin offs. Who can deny Cpt. Janeway or Benjamin Sisco two of my all time favourite TV Star Trek characters....and then there is Seven of Nine! what a character she was. Just what Dr Who could do with.

Get some new writers a new cast some go great storylines and all will be good.

Great examples of strong Female leads who both kicked serious ass. Man, Woman, black or white is irrelevant. In the end it's all about the writing.

To me this doctor seems poorly written and miscast.  If they got the right actress, like Tilda Swinton.  And a room of writers that knew how to handle female characters I think you might change your opinion.

Agreed. Tilda Swinton would make a bloody good Doctor Who

Tilda is shit. Over hyped and a terrible actress she would be the last person I would select for Dr Who and its not because she is a woman its because she is a twerp! I think what is needed is the right actor, gender and colour unimportant.
The only requirement I would put forward is age, not too young and not too old other than that!
What a laugh!!!

Hes cancelled. Therefore he is not needed to be on a list to be considered for anything. Makes sense

Maybe next time he shouldn't vocalise his jewish hate. Or rant other such mind bogglingly f-ed up nonsense.

If you're looking for a black guy to be the doctor, I'd vote Idris Elba. Keeps it British too

Doctor Who is quintessentially British.

It would be like getting some yank to play James Bond. It would just be shit no matter the quality of the actor

Describe what self awareness means to you in your own words.

Dave admitted he couldn't do it.

I can.
It's easy for any human.

You're much better at imitating human behaviour than Dave, although that may be because your human operator often posts from your account.

I've only seen a human post from Stashs account once.

Okay so let's consider Aliens.  This makes more sense with the extended cut.

Close to the end, Ripley decides to make what could be called a suicide mission to rescue Newt.  Seems kind of insane right?  Well earlier in the movie we see when she awakes from suspended animation that she's outlived her own children.  And she kind of takes it hard.

In light of this we can see that it's probably Ripley's maternal instinct going into overdrive and making her do seemlingly foolish things while at the same time giving her the strength to get it done.

My point is this wouldn't make as much sense if you put in a man in the role of ripley.

That's how much they've screwed this one.

I don't think I don't see you Jane.  I'm in yer booth brush giving you traces of crimson or gingivitius!

Hes just a place holder to win back some fans while that get a gay coloured dude to fill in.

The Doctor has already kissed a dude on screen. Gay's been done.

I'm fine with a gay minority albino wheelchair bound blind actor... as long as he gets a proper British accent.

It's telling that pretty much any time someone whines about 'the woke' and 'cancel culture' it's because they want to spread racist or homophobic bullshit.  It's only cancel culture when people are saying things they agree with.
