Eratosthenes's observation

as a matter of fact, I think it's pretty awsome that he figured out that the earth was round...

Quote from: "mikanch"
it seems that you don't know what you're talking about, considering that I never said that he gave a proof that the earth is round.

I'm sorry, I must have misunderstood what you meant when you said he "figured out that the Earth was round."  How did he figure it out again?  My physics book says that his society already believed that the Earth was round.  That would suggest that no "figuring out" was required.  Obviously you know more about this than I do.  Please elaborate as to what you meant when you said that he "figured it out".  It's funny because later you say "he assumed [that the Earth was round]" - that doesn't sound like "figuring" something out at all.  Do you mean both those statements, or is one a mistake?

I guess it's because I don't know what I'm talking about that I can't understand what you mean.

if you consider "his society" as the people that could have access to education and understand that, as a matter of fact, the earth is round, you're right. But I don't think that if he asked a peasant about the shape of the earth he would have given the same answer.

Anyway, you're still skipping the main question: give me some explanations about the "evolution" of the FE theroy.

hey beast, you think your smart eh? im gonna beat this into every flat earthers brain. its called the Foucault Pendulum you retard. It is REAL. created by a REAL physicist you jackass. go to Paris and look at it. You cant say im wrong becuse it exists. if you knew anything abot astronomy you would know what it proves. i assume that you dont so i will tell you. It proves that the earth has a rotaion axis. and dont argue with me, i didn't invent it. Argue with some MIT phycisists who know its exact mechanics you fcuck stick. besides, i dont see your name in any science publications, so this means your an asshole who has no idea what he's talking about.

By the way, i go to SCHOOL were there are EXPERTS in different fields, such as astronomy and physics. you have no idea what your talking about.
s the earth really flat?
Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, maybe go fcuk yourself.

The Foucault Pendulum says nothing about the shape of the earth.

i like your response, flat earth doesnt account for a rotaion of the earth, you just proved my point because you know that the earth rotates.

your right, it doesnt say anything about the shape of the earth. But, says something about the rotation of the earth. now what? are you gonna tell me that the earth doest rotate?

The Flat Earth rotates. The FE sun is stationary at the equator.

I know!  I've felt something funny about this guy since the first few times i got a response from him.  I don't really want to hurt Tom's feelings, but I dont' think he's a real person.

It does. I've explained it to you before, you wont accept it. But it works.

It will tell you the shape by the distortion of rotation, and direction of rotation.

FE: Swing will continue to be offset at a greater inclination the farther from the north pole you travel, all the way to the south pole. Offset will not change rotational direction.

RE: Swing will continue to be offset at a greater inclination the farther from the north pile you travel, until you reach the equator, where the farther south you travel the pendulum will reverse it's rotation and it's inclination will then become less and less the closer to the south pole that you get.
