John was probably a CIA plant.  King James definitely was - they had CIA dark stations in Scotland coordinated the assassination of Queen Elizabeth (made it look like old age) and manipulated the English nobility to put their man on both thrones.

Wouldn't telling the Saudis that we are not getting involved in any way be what you want, for the US to remain neutral and stay out of conflicts?  I'm confused on your position.

It is bizarre, the "NATO on our borders is a threat so we need to invade" argument is obviously trash.

NATO countries already bordering Russia:

- Estonia
- Norway
- Eastern Latvia
- Poland
- Lithuania

This is extremely charitable to Russia’s goals.  Especially considering that Ukraine offered to drop any attempts to join NATO if Russia would please stop murdering its people and just fuck off.

Far more likely is that Putin couldn’t accept Ukraine drifting closer to Europe and out of his political and economic influence.  So he decided he’d have it, or as much as he could and reduce the rest to rubble.

This is a war with a very clear right and wrong, IMO.

I seem to recall some people early on saying that Putin's real goal was to restore the USSR.  One worry was that once Russia took over Ukraine, they would have kept going on to Moldova.

If current rumors are correct and he's terminally ill (or maybe terminally ill) then this could be his one last push to rebuild the homeland he knew, return Russia to Glory, and cement his name in history.

Well, they gave been attacking one town in  Donetsk Oblast since April without any result (apart from lots of dead Russians).  So it's difficult to see them suddenly sweeping across Ukraine into Moldova.  All they are doing now is desperately holding the lines they have, or in the south handling an orderly retreat across the Dnieper.

The Russian army appears incapable of offensive manoeuvres and mobilisation won't change that.

Yeah, they've got some troops in Transnistria, but they are in their 60s most of them - the whole place is meant to be like a retirement home.  And the people of Transnistria don't want their smuggling businesses disturbed.

I've read that around 10,000 Russians died trying to hold it during October. But their deaths were not in vain. They liberated many toilets and washing machines from that city and brought them back to mother Russia.

That sounds ridiculously high.

Not sure exactly how many died in Kherson.  Ukraine says there's been almost 80 thousand russians killed.  These numbers have to be taken with a grain of salt but it's sort of backed up by Russia making the financials regarding paying families of dead soldiers public.

Russia and Ukraine each have suffered over 100,000 casualties, the top U.S. general says.
Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, called the coming winter months an opportune time for the two sides to hold peace talks, though that prospect appears dim.

Russia’s war in Ukraine has left more than 100,000 of Moscow’s troops dead or wounded, and Ukraine has probably suffered a similar number of casualties, the United States’ most senior general said this week.

“You’re looking at well over 100,000 Russian soldiers killed and wounded,” Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said in remarks at the Economic Club of New York on Wednesday. “Same thing probably on the Ukrainian side.”
