WTF?  Generals don't ride donkeys to the front any more.
Do they still battle like that in old world countries?

A bullshit story for some reason people believe.

Certainly sounds like generals are being killed, and Russia has really admitted it.  Doesn't sound like bullshit to me.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-60807538

"Although Russia has confirmed the death of only one general, Kyiv and western officials believe up to seven have been killed in fighting since the war began.

It is unusual for such senior Russian officers to be so close to the battlefield, and western officials believe that they have been forced to move towards the front lines to deal with low morale among Russian troops."

Show of hands . . . who who would have killed Hitler on day one?
And now here we are.

Knowing what we know now? Not me.

Turns out having a paranoid and delusional drug addict leading the war in the later years was a pretty good thing for the rest of the world.

They do when their encrypted communications system relies on the cell phone towers that they destroyed on the way in.

We could compare

How many generals did America lose in 20 years in Afghanistan compared to 1 month of Russians in Ukraine....

I think the yanks may have only lost a grand total of 1?

No. Wars are BS and only filled with losers. But you can judge military strategy and effectiveness on it though.

2 weeks in the war and the Russians were already down for the count. Hopeless. The only strategy they have is to pummel defenceless civilians at this stage. Now they are talking about a nuclear response. Seriously? Pansy dumbarses.....

I seriously doubt getting Fox News to agree with him was his goal. Who cares if Fox News agrees with him?  He succeeded in stirring up the neverending culture war. There are literally respectable adults (many of them journalists) on Twitter being taken in by this propaganda and spreading it.

I think people don't realize how very online journalists are, especially on Twitter. They amplify each other, but only their ideological peers. If one of them steps out of line, then all the others pile on. It's a very strange place for news media to be.

I think we all forget: Journalists are underpaid and humans.  Thus, they get lazy.

Oh that wasn't sympathy.  Just reality.
Also, I don't know any actual right wing or left wing journalists.  All I know are talking heads who have the journalistic integrity of a reality TV producer.  The real journalists are the people working the story, writing what they can, learning what they can.  The ones making calls and searching websites and twitter feeds.

Then they write up their story.  Have it cut down by their editor.  Then watch as their name is printed on a headline they never wrote.
Doesn't matter which side they're on.
Gone.

Okay, but your journalists are underpaid humans post has nothing to do with them spreading Putin's propaganda. They didn't spread it because they are lazy, they spread it for likes and retweets. They spread it so the mob won't come for them - "Do it to Julia! Do it to Julia! Not me! Julia! I don't care what you do to her. Tear her face off, strip her to the bones. Not me! Julia! Not me!"  They're not lazy, they are cowards.

It's impossible to be a public figure online without some mob or other coming for you. This feels like you're pushing your own narrative somewhere that it doesn't entirely follow.
Dave has a point.

For that matter, "They do it for likes and retweets and so that the mob won't come for them" is a contradiction in terms. Saying something dumb online is the best way to get retweeted, and to get more people to click through to your twitter - people on all sides. Baiting a mob is the easiest way to keep relevant. Online entities live for being at the center of a controversy.

WTF are you talking about?  Disagreement isn't an attack, you fucking moron. (that was an attack)  Also, google "Do it to Julia".

bluejay, it isn't a contradiction. If you read what Putin said about JKR, and if you know why the mob hates her, they you will know why they don't want that mob after them. Even though she obviously hasn't been cancelled, no matter how hard they try.

Again, you're saying she hasn't been cancelled, and simultaneously that the mob is an actual threat rather than free exposure.
Honestly 'cancel' is a word that has been used so extensively it's meaningless. People working minimum wage jobs who get fired by their bosses and lose a living because of a tweet, that's getting cancelled and is absolutely wrong. Anyone whose name you know offhand is incapable of being cancelled, they just get a career change. JK Rowling hasn't been cancelled, she just moved from children's books to politics and has gotten much more in the way of attention and time on air in the wake of it than she had any time after the HP fervor died down. The outrage machine is just another publicity option in the social media age.

Of course I'm saying she hasn't been cancelled, because she hasn't. She also hasn't moved from writing books to politics, she's still publishing best sellers, and she doesn't need "free exposure". Although, I'm sure she doesn't mind the exposure if people donate to Lumos to help the orphaned Ukrainian kids.

Putin said the West is cancelling Russia, and that the West cancelled JKR. - "JK Rowling was cancelled because she, a writer of books that have sold millions of copies around the world, didn't please fans of so-called gender freedoms,"

The people (many of them journalists) who then used Putin's weird statement to condemn JKR are who I am talking about. Not JKR. They are addicted to culture war bullshit, and they also live in fear of it. They spread this propaganda because it allowed them to post their hot takes against the queen of the TERFs.

I'm aware. But the fact is, she has been dogged with controversy more than support since the Fantastic Beasts drama, and none of her later series had anywhere near the cultural relevancy of Harry Potter. She's been in the news much more for politics since she decided to get involved, than she was as Robert Galbraith. This is just how the outrage machine works. Similarly, Putin gets people talking about that and has people defending or attacking JK Rowling rather than talking about Russia, and on and on the cycle goes.
The fact you are this passionate about it is proof that this is not a one-sided issue. Same as it ever was, same as it ever was.

The whole alignment between Putin's autocracy and the looney right is interesting,  almost if they were working from the same script.

Fox seems to get it's talking point direct from the Kremlin.  Like the Hunter Biden laptop thing funding bio weapons lab in Ukraine.  That was an FSB project.

Farage in the UK seems also to be weirdly in lock step with then Kremlin.

They are in agreement about plenty of things, it's no mystery.

Right wingers see Putin and Trump as strong manly men who can protect them from the scary Mexican transsexual terrorists.  They are both popular among the right in both countries.

Zero surprise to see Putin taking Fox talking points and using them in return, thus his picking up "cancel culture" to cultivate the right wing in the US.

I expect he's going to at one point claim he invaded Ukraine to find Hunters laptop that has Hillary secret emails about how Fauci created COVID.

Which might be the whole point?

More likely to spread FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) and throw the talks into chaos by some party that wants them to fail.  If that’s really what it was of course.

That might be true if all the parties involved were acting rationally.  We have one party acting very irrationally.  Who the hell knows why Putin would do it.  Maybe when he's under stress it calms him to poison people.

Russia is no longer requesting Ukraine be “denazified” and is prepared to let Kyiv join the European Union if it remains military non-aligned as part of ongoing ceasefire negotiations, according to four people briefed on the discussions.

Moscow and Kyiv are discussing a pause in hostilities as part of a possible deal that would involve Ukraine abandoning its drive for Nato membership in exchange for security guarantees and the prospect to join the EU, the people said under the condition of anonymity because the matter is not yet finalised. The draft ceasefire document does not contain any discussion of three of Russia’s initial core demands — “denazification”, “demilitarisation”, and legal protection for the Russian language in Ukraine — the people added.

This sounds like a good deal, but I won't get my hopes up.
I'm sorry. Am I to understand that when you have a boner you like to imagine punching the shit out of Tom Bishop? That's disgusting.

It would seem like good news except that it's hard to imagine taking Putin at his word for anything.

I almost think it's irresponsible for the media to keep reporting on peace talks since it looks like its just propaganda to make Putin seem reasonable.
