Come on, I hope we're both teasing; because I wasn't being remotely serious. I was using improper grammar and obviously feigning ignorance.
ah.

Rick_James, you now know about the FES IRC Channel.  You have no choice - you have to join.

Ready to be shocked and horrified? I have no idea what this is all about. I see it's a chat of some sort - do I need an external program, or is it all web-based like the good ol' days?

The "good ol' days" do not involve the web, which did not exist at the time.

There is a variety of external programs for accessing IRC networks.  By far the most popular one for Windows is mIRC.  Under Linux, I have used BitchX with some difficulty, xchat with some frustration, and GAIM with much relief.

I believe this network sports a web interface which I have not tried.

p.s. it is important to note that mIRC ships with a Turing-equivalent scripting language.

I think you need an external program - I didn't see any way of entering the chatroom via Java.

For windows, you could try mRIC or the windows version of X-Chat.  I'd suggest X-Chat, for I have the mac version and could help you out when you get here.

I know X-Chat is for sure, but I think mIRC isn't.

The trial for mIRC is free, and it never ends so you don't actually have to pay for it.

Rick_James:

My personal favourite client is XChat 2 - http://www.silverex.org/download (doesn't have mIRC's 'PAY ME!' messages).

Java client (web-based) - http://www.slashnet.org/java.php

FES has suffered the death of all irc channels, no one logging on because no one is on....
