A 2019 report by the National Center for Education Statistics determined that mid to high literacy in the United States is 79% with 21% of American adults categorized as having "low level English literacy," including 4.1% classified as "functionally illiterate" and an additional 4% that could not participate.[1] According to the U.S. Department of Education, 54% of adults in the United States have prose literacy below the 6th-grade level.

Certainly not a surprise. But still, it's refreshing to see muricans becoming self aware!

Whats your point? That children in developed countries should remain uneducated because children in africa are, too?

It is not surprising but there is little interest in politicians wanting to solve it. A stupid populous is unlikely to be able to critically think about issues and thus hold them accountable. Just understand a 3 word slogan that doesn't actually mean anything. Build the wall. Lock her up. Drain the swamp..... I'm impressed 'Make America Great Again' had 4. That was a risky step up!

I bet looking into the data you would find the vast majority of the 54% of illiterates would vote for the repugs. And that's exactly how the repugnican party likes/needs it
