Atmosphere?

If the Earth is flat and not a sphere, why do we call it the atmoSPHERE instead of the atmoFLAT?

It would seem that the SPHERE root of words like atmosphere, biosphere, stratosphere, and more come from the proposed shape of the Earth by globe-earthers, so why do we not have a term that's specific to the FE society?

Just some food for thought :)

Because the spherically curved shape is needed for the "lensing" explanation elsewhere (several Flat-Earth versions of air optics).
Plane-parallel structures can't provide such lensing.

Beacause terms like that came form time when earth was belived to be round
