A year ago, we lost a legend
« on: August 02, 2021, 02:40:41 AM »
A year ago today (I might be a day late), this forum lost one of its giants. Loved him or loathed him, you loved him all the same. No one can deny he was not legendary around here, especially in his beautifully formatted posts. This was a man who took pride in what he did

He was also a man who told me to 'Go Jump!' on more than a few occasions :P 8)

Over 26500 posts. You could count on him every single day to be here. He spent his twilight years here. Even when he knew his number was up, he ensured his family could relay to us what happened. Now that, is a man that cares. Most people just rage quit or disappear without a word. Not our man rabinoz!!

This is why he should not be forgotten. So here's to you rab!  8)

Aww, has it been a year already?  :'(
I'm sorry. Am I to understand that when you have a boner you like to imagine punching the shit out of Tom Bishop? That's disgusting.

Can't believe it's been a year.
Rabinoz RIP

That would put you in the same category as pedophile perverts like John Davis, NSS, robots like Stash, Shifter, and victimized kids like Alexey.

A year has gone by so quickly, it's hard to believe.

Forgot how to use your brain?

Wise may have last been online May 28, 2021, but his last post was Jan 15, 2021. When we lost Ron, wise was never the same, and eventually we lost wise too. They were a package deal.

So many. It's funny, I still have the vid on my desktop. Haven't watched it in a while, but it's kind of like putting something on the mantle to remember. He was such a great guy. Stellar sense of humor, self-deprecatingly funny. I'm glad I got to kind of get to know him a little through a bunch of PM's over the course of a year or so. We talked about our educations, he would tell me stories of working on chipsets and such at Cal Berkeley way, way back at the dawn of the computer age way before my time. He saw so much technology just explode in his lifetime and was like a little kid still awed by it all. When he would get banned from the other site he would send me a whole bunch of responses to stuff that he wanted me to post. He was very passionate that way. And amazing for an octogenarian. He talked about his family that he adored. Just a sweet, interesting, smart guy all around.

As for the video, so many shots of family and friends, hard to pick. But I really like the bookends of young Ron with that particular swagger and confidence he seemed to possess and the famous photo of when we all kind of knew him. And of course the closing shot of the sunset, something I think he would have picked out for himself.

I loved the way it presented him as unassuming and spectacular.
I also think about us trading "who got shocked worse" stories.   :o

Who won?

Well, he worked with vacuum tubes . . . 600v @ ľA.
I played with  high voltage . . . 15,000v @ 60mA.

I think we both lost.

Yep vac tubes, notoriously unstable and scary when working with. I remember my Grandfather talking about his guys in a factory he ran that were responsible for replacing them in machinery and even they were very respectful of their power.

And yeah, I'm a little light in the electrical knowledge handbook, but I think the volts are groovy, but it's the amps that kill you?

I think you might have bested Rab in the danger realm. But knowing him he would have, at a minimum, given you a treatise on all things electrical in response to the "loss". A treatise of the likes I so much wanted to hear from him. Always insightful and entertaining.

Very sad, but to all good things come an end.

At least I got good memories of him.
