What? Do you think child rape videos should be legal?

Apparently girls are too stupid to make decisions?
About being raped?   Or being abused as a child?  Or having someone commercialize their private property against their will?

If you are going to host porn, you better make damn sure that you verify the people in the videos have consented to them and are of legal age.

I would not be surprised to find this is not the case with the sheer amount of videos they host. I'm sure they have some sort of basic cover-your-ass form you have to fill out that probably covers some of the legal aspects but certainly is avoiding their moral responsibilities.

And you REALLY need to take complaints about unauthorized videos seriously and immediatly. They clearly did not.

Doing things right is expensive in the short run, much more expensive in the long run.

Pornhub took down millions of videos after this article was published https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/04/opinion/sunday/pornhub-rape-trafficking.html  (archive https://archive.is/B2sQ6 ) causing Visa, Mastercard, and Discover to stop allowing payments https://www.cnn.com/2020/12/14/business/mastercard-visa-discover-pornhub/index.html   Mastercard did its own investigation https://www.cnn.com/2020/12/06/business/mastercard-investigation-pornhub/index.html  which found the allegations to be true.  That's a lot of links but the NYT article is what kicked it all off. Women have been fighting to have Pornhub held accountable for hosting rape and cp for years, but nothing worked until Nicholas Kristof got involved.

I was looking for more information and ended up looking at this article, because I am also interested in free speech issues https://insidesources.com/pornhub-lawsuit-is-problematic-for-free-speech/   I agree that legal porn is a free speech issue. I don't like it, but I don't want it outlawed. I don't agree that sites should be protected by section 230 if they are allowing and profiting from (they knew about the cp, rape, etc) illegal content.

I feel like if you want to be protected by section 230 then you have to hold up your side of the deal. If someone posts something illegal here, for instance, I would immediately quarantine it and then deal with it in whatever way is appropriate. Pornhub (and other large tech companies) are the ones endangering section 230. They have the excuse of having millions of users, but they also have billions of dollars to invest in making their own platforms legal. I don't expect them to be perfect, but they haven't made an effort. In one of these stories Twitter refused to remove a revenge porn video of a 16yr old girl for 6 years. She reported it for 6 years, and they didn't take it down until Nicholas Kristof requested a comment from them about the video. They're real quick to ban people for wrongthink, so I know they had time to look into it.
I'm sorry. Am I to understand that when you have a boner you like to imagine punching the shit out of Tom Bishop? That's disgusting.

HOUSTON — The Texas Supreme Court ruled Friday that Facebook is not a “lawless no-man’s land” and can be held liable for the conduct of people who use the platform to recruit and prey on children.

The justices ruled that trafficking victims can move ahead with lawsuits because Facebook violated a provision of the Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code, which was passed in 2009, the Houston Chronicle reported.

The ruling stems from three civil actions from Houston involving teenage trafficking victims who met the predators through Facebook’s messaging functions, according to the Chronicle. The plaintiffs sued the California-based social media giant for negligence and product liability, arguing that Facebook failed to warn about or try to prevent sex trafficking from occurring on its platforms, the newspaper reported.

The lawsuits also alleged that Facebook benefited from the sexual exploitation of trafficking victims.

Facebook’s attorneys argued the company is shielded from liability under Section 230 of the federal Communications Decency Act, which states that what users say or write online is not the same as a publisher conveying the same message.

Porn and sex trafficking are going to be the death of 230.

Pornhub: Judge rules Visa can be sued in abuse claim

Serena Fleites was 13 in 2014 when, it is alleged, a boyfriend pressured her into making an explicit video which he posted to Pornhub.

Ms Fleites alleges that Visa, by processing revenue from ads, conspired with Pornhub's parent firm MindGeek to make money from videos of her abuse.

Visa had sought to be removed from the case.

Ms Fleites' story has featured in the New York Times article The Children of Pornhub - an article which prompted MindGeek to delete millions of videos and make significant changes to its policies and practice.

Her allegations are summarised in the pre-trial ruling of the Central District Court of California.

Wow, I wonder if Visa is even worried.

The lawsuit is centered around the allegation that Pornhub is guilty of copyright infringement.

Apparently girls are too stupid to make decisions?

You can't take advantage of someone then blame them for letting you take advantage of them.

It's evil.

I'm sorry to speak so bluntly.
I'm glad this thread was bumped.

No.  Makes it more evil, actually.
Because at this point, we want it to keep happening.  Its not a "oh we didn't know." Or "we were unevolved monkeys.". Its a "yes, we know people do it and we aren't gonna stop them."

Quote
March 16 (Reuters) - Canadian private equity firm Ethical Capital Partners (ECP) on Thursday said it had acquired Pornhub owner MindGeek, which has been mired in controversy over recent years.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Luxembourg-based MindGeek has been a centerpiece in the adult entertainment industry since the advent of video streaming, but concerns over the company's business model triggered the departure of its top management last year.

Pornhub, MindGeek's flagship site, was also cut off by Visa and Mastercard's payment networks in 2020 following investigations that identified unlawful content on the platform.

MindGeek has since said that Mastercard reinstated access to its subscription sites, but both the payments firms suspended ties with the company's advertisement arm TrafficJunky after a lawsuit raised questions over whether they could be facilitating child pornography.

"We are engaged with the team at MindGeek and with stakeholders, including content creators, advocates, law enforcement, civil society partners and policy makers to inform our efforts and strengthen MindGeek's secure platforms, going beyond legal and regulatory obligations," said Solomon Friedman, ECP's founding partner.

They have "ethical" in their name! Everything will be okay now.

If you change your name to that then you'd probably be able to ban evade without actually trying to ban evade.

https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/02/tech/pornhub-utah-age-verification/index.html

Quote
Some of the internet’s biggest adult websites, including Pornhub, are now blocking access to Utah users over a new age verification law that takes effect on Wednesday.

Pornhub and other adult sites controlled by its parent, MindGeek, began blocking visitors with Utah-based IP addresses this week. Now, instead of seeing adult content when visiting those sites, affected users are shown a message expressing opposition to SB287, the Utah law signed by Gov. Spencer Cox in March that creates liability for porn sites that make their content available to people below the age of 18.

“As you may know, your elected officials in Utah are requiring us to verify your age before allowing you access to our website,” the message said. “While safety and compliance are at the forefront of our mission, giving your ID card every time you want to visit an adult platform is not the most effective solution for protecting our users, and in fact, will put children and your privacy at risk.”

Utah coomers furiously googling proxies.

Blocking children from viewing pornhub somehow puts them at risk.

Porn sites tend to be stingy on security.
How would they verify age?
Its certainly doable if everyone has a state ID or some kind of interlinked system with the state.
Like how pages have google logins?  If you had that but for the state.
But that requires you to have an ID for porn or have your state ID linked up to an online, government system thats searchable and tracks your internet usage.

And that probably requires phone verification or some way to verify with the user, right then and there, that the person entering shit into a website is the person who owns the account.

Its doable but also so...so ripe for hacking.
Hell, just make a fake porn site and get everyone's state ID info.
You have been ignored for common interest of mankind.
