Banned but not really?
« on: June 07, 2021, 11:54:54 PM »
Hello

For some reason I cannot access the forum using my laptop ('you are banned from using this forum. Reason: spambot') but I have no issues with access through my phone?
There must be some kind of error. Please fix it, ty!

Your laptop is sharing an IP address with a spambot. That's either because you are using a proxy and it gifted you with an IP that spammers also use, or you registered an account here under a different name and made poor choices above and beyond creating an alt. If it's the former, you just need the proxy to give you a different IP. If it's the latter, sorry not sorry I guess? It's probably the proxy thing though, so I'd try getting a different IP through them.

I am always entering the internet through my phones hotspot so laptop and phone have the same IP yet one works one does not.
I think yesterday it did still work and I definitely have not created a spambot account since then. I'll try later if it works if I enable my vpn.

okay it works if I use a different browser/incognito mode.
So I guess I should just delete my cookies? But still very weird, why does your software recognize me as spambot? Can I somehow find out which active cookies there are so we might find the issue?

If you want to PM me the public IP address you are using when you see the ban message, I can double check it against the log to see if it's what I said. There are browser extensions like Hola that run you through a proxy too, even if you aren't using your usual VPN service.

I deleted the cookies, and now it works normal again. Weird!
Edit - I don't have hola or any other kind of in-browser-proxy.

You are posting from two different IPs in this thread.
I'm sorry. Am I to understand that when you have a boner you like to imagine punching the shit out of Tom Bishop? That's disgusting.

Yeah because I was downloading some tv series, so I turned on the vpn.

I have tested it with the same ip (using  whatismyip to make sure nothing was changing the ip) and it was the same on the phone and laptop. On the phone it worked, on the laptop not.

But as I said, after deleting the cookies I can now access the forum from both laptop and smartphone, with or without vpn.

Oh, and using a VPN on the laptop (before deleting the cookies) didn't help, so the ip certainly wasnt the issue.

I found your login attempts in the error log, but I still don't know why you were getting the ban message.

I have found other people on a different forum describing the same issue (in 2019, lol) http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/index.php?topic=20788.0

After reading all those threads, it was definitely a corrupted cookie. Hopefully you won't have that problem again. One person had all his devices synced so he had to deleted cookies on everything.

Yeah I hope so, too! If it happens again, I'll have to ban ya'll ;)
