Why do people believe that the earth is round
« on: March 23, 2021, 07:19:21 AM »
Some people are ignorant enough to believe that the Earth is round, however, when presented with the truth, they still say that this is not true, what is the reason?

Firstly, they go with the public view, the public beliefs that the earth is round and so they end up believing that the earth is round!

Moreover, they trust the fake photos of earth, they trust blindly the fake photos that the government claim is true!

Finally, they do not question what people say, they are ignorant to believe that everything they hear is true

Are you just a troll trying to start a fight, or do you actually believe that nonsense?

They believe Earth is round because that is what all the available evidence which can determine the shape of Earth indicates.
There is nothing that indicates Earth is flat rather than round. The best you ever find for the FEers is evidence which cannot distinguish the shape of Earth.

This means that they aren't being presented with the truth, but a baseless claim. Even if I were to believe you and believe it is the truth, it is still a baseless claim.
Why should they just accept a baseless claim?
And this is where you contradict yourself.
If they didn't question what people say, and instead just believe everything, they would believe Earth is flat, because you told them.

If you need to pretend there is a massive global conspiracy hiding the shape of Earth, you should seriously question if you are the one just believing what you were told that went against the mainstream.

It's probably fear of the unknown. I find the unknown fascinating.

And then of course their is the massive problem that what is claimed to be unknown - i think - is a massive cover up to sell us another whatever....thats probably over simplified, but i think accurate - people accept the reward system.

If anything, that would be for FEers.

REers accept there is a vast, mostly unknown universe out there.
FEers on the other hand have the stars just being tiny points of light close by.

Like I said, it is likely because of all the evidence indicating Earth is round, the FEers need to dismiss as fake.

Yes, the shadow of Earth on the moon during an eclipse is one piece of evidence that Earth is round.

whats goin on?
This has already been dealt with previously on this site, or something very close to it.
The person is being quite dishonest.
It isn't an "empty horizon". It is just that at that zoom, you do not have enough resolution to resolve the boats.

As you zoom in, you get enough resolution to start resolving the boats.
Notice the boat before the horizon? It is clearly before the horizon, and was not obscured by the horizon at all.
Once you could resolve it, you could resolve it. It didn't appear from the bottom up.

For the boats actually past the horizon, you have a mirage, which makes the bottom obscured.

As for the analysis, it is somewhat problematic as it starts off already past the horizon.
It would be much better if they started earlier so we could see it before it goes over the horizon to compare.

But then they just start out lying. It isn't ~ a 6th of the height. It starts off much closer to a 7th. If you go to the "mirror line" it is 1 in 6.8. If instead you go to the horizon it is 1 in 7.4 as for the full length of the mast they used, that is 1 in 2.9 and 1 in 3.2 using the mirror line and horizon respectively.

Later in the video, at around 6:45, they dishonestly put the top orange line LOWER than the top of the mast.
Unlike what they claim, the relative size has increased significantly.
The top of the mast is now 1 in 4.7 compared to the mirror line and 1 in 6.3 compared to the horizon.
This is a significant reduction and shows that a significant portion of the boat is now missing.

Likewise, for the height of the mast used, it has now dropped to 1 in 1.8 or 1 in 2.4, relative to the mirror line or horizon. Again showing a significant part  of the boat is missing.

Some people are ignorant enough to believe that the Earth is round, however, when presented with the truth, they still say that this is not true, what is the reason?
...

There are several reasons, the main of which is direct measurement, done many times by millions of people.

Back in 2015/16 there were cheap sextants at eBay, some under $30.
Using your own sextant you can skip what others say and measure things on your own.
Things like lunar parallax, or Earth's curvature.

If the Earth was flat, all verticals would be parallel.
However, two verticals that are 1852 meters apart (one nautical mile) are tilted away from each other for one arc minute.

Nautical mile was defined few centuries ago because of the Earth's curvature.
One degree of the curvature was divided into 60 nautical miles just for that purpose: easier to measure distances that ships travel at sea.

As you can see, saying that the Earth was "flat" is not really a truth, and no cherry-picking can change that.
I don't have to fight about anything.
These things are not about me.
When one points facts out, they speak for themselves.
The main goal in all that is simplicity.

I pretty much agree, but i think the earth photos from space may be real - i haven't looked at the evidence much but i think nasa - "never a straight answer" may be appropriate based on some other stuff i seen back in time - like training mission photos flipped and presented as real mission photos.
