I grew up playing these and I am enthused at the prospect of having my kid play the same shit I did

Don't feel bad. We grew up in the golden age. I know every generation says that even going to the horse and cart days but growing up in an age without HD or 4K graphics, giant TV screens, smart phones or internet etc, we really had a great time and had more freedom and learned the value of appreciation. It is this generation who 'has it all' that has really missed out on these simple joys.

Purist hey Symptom? I would prefer the original too but not as common or cheap.

Well finally in 2021 this thing is still up for pre order (in Oz at least). The wait was so long I lost interest. And when you compare the specs and playability of the Atari box to something like a PS5 or XBox Series X, it's a no brainer if you had to choose, the Atari simply wouldn't be it. Here in Oz that nice looking walnut version is actually more expensive than a Series X lol

Also why does it take so long? They teased this thing in 2017. 4 years later they still haven't got the product in peoples hands here. It's essentially a box with PC hardware crammed inside. It shouldn't be that hard to slap together. Making people wait forever only leads to them investing their money and time in something else. Over 300 games on the XBox later no way am I investing anything into the Atari now!

Some time in the early 90’s my mom came home one day with an Atari. She bought it at a garage sale. My bro and I had all the classics. We had the joy stick controllers. They broke and for some reason we gave it to the neighbor kid.

I may or may not already have the Atari games on a raspberry pi running retro pie.

All these new machines are just emulators. I'd buy a $100 pc and use it as an emulation box. If you buy a $300 PC you can play ps2 games too.

I mean that's what I do when I feel nostalgic.
