The second part of your statement doesn't take someone more clever, all it takes is someone saying socialism.  It would be wonderful if the majority of Americans could be persuaded by using facts and messaging, but I think we are unfortunately past that point.  Even if the likes of the Fox News gang and other conservative voices started to espouse the benefits of fixing our broken medical system, they would be turned on by their followers and those people would seek out someone else who shares their views.

So we're now about 6 months into this administration.  It has been four months since anything of significance has been passed.

I'm starting to get the impression that the Democrats main priority for the next 18 months is to find creative ways to sit on their thumbs and lose the midterms so they don't have to try so hard to find excuses to do nothing.

We lack the view from behind closed doors.  I'd wager they'd love to pass something but
1) Republicans refuse to support anything major because Trump/voters.
2) Democrats are afraid that pushing through something significant will get another insurrection to descend on capital hill.  Because why wouldn't it?

Yes, who could fault him for joking about attacking someone who earlier this year had armed gangs of angry people hunting her down in her own office.
