These were all deliberate watering down protections not only for the environment but your children and workers that had only one benefit, that of profits for the businesses involved.

If a politician can run on a platform of "i-wont-be-as-bad-bad-as that-guy" instead of actual policy, then the voter has the duty! to vote for the other guy on a basis of "you-wont-promise-me-anything-i-want".

Who watched The State of the Union address last night?

Biden did alright, it seemed more like a campaign rally than anything. The most hilarious part was listening to the pundits commenting while Biden was walking through the crowd of congresspeople. I think the TV was on NBC, but idk. Anyway, one of them said Biden was boisterous and the other one was so excited that he was able to walk through the crowd for 6 minutes. It's like they are desperate for Biden to not be an old man.

I watched it.  Also the rebuttal.  The rebuttal was weak but then again I think every rebuttal seems weak, even the democrats.  Maybe it's a consequence of being out of power.

SOTU speeches have been campaign rallies for a while now.  Instant communication has made the original intent of the SOTU obsolete.

What did I think of his speech... picture your grandpa who you think is too old to drive.  He wants to prove you wrong so he takes you on a drag race where he knocks over several mailboxes, small animals and occasionally clips a few people while outrunning the police.  While he did win the race and did a few impressive things it doesn't quite convince me he's okay to drive.  I think mostly it proved that he's willing to overdose on enough adderall and viagra to be effective at the job.

My favorite moment was when Jewish Space Laser started heckling him about the victim of an illegal immigrant, to say her name.  Which he does but mispronounces it.  I can't tell if he's trolling her or if he just mushmouthed it.

She watches local news, which is all pretty much the same. Even the local Fox news channel isn't any different from the other local channels. Weather, local news, sports, etc. Not much political commentary. I think she sees stuff on Facebook (which is the devil) and youtube.

I don't know what to think about it. I know that TikTok is the devil, but will this bill give the president the power to shut down any website on "national security" grounds? We all know how the Patriot Act turned out, this seems like the Patriot Act for the internet.

I hope people remember that their party will not always be making the decisions, and what you think is a good idea now could turn into a disaster if in the wrong hands.

I mean, yes there's a ton of personal data you could farm from tiktok videos, but they can do that on youtube so its really not a big deal.

This is very clearky a 'We hate China' bill for election season to make old people happy.

The fact that this was bipartisan is interesting.  The arguments that this social media app is such a great threat to us that we need to ditch the first amendment I find unconvincing.

I've heard a theory going around the pro Palestinian people.  They think lawmakers are trying to ban tiktok because it's been very effective at exposing Israel's war crimes.  Not sure I quite believe that either.
