Roll 20 D&D
« on: July 07, 2020, 05:26:56 PM »
Is anyone interested in playing some DnD on Roll 20? I can run a game or be a player, or we can find a third party DM.

The illusion is shattered if we ask what goes on behind the scenes.

I think I played D&D once, 13 years ago when I was on deployment to pass the time.

I may be interested.  I'm getting tired of reading the same posts/reposts.

Oh, it has been so long since I played D&D that I don't remember how, but I think it could be lots of fun.
I'm sorry. Am I to understand that when you have a boner you like to imagine punching the shit out of Tom Bishop? That's disgusting.

Awesome! I wouldn't worry about being familiar with the rules; they change every so many years when a new edition is released so its probably been that long since most of us have played and I'll be there to help. I tend to go more for whether something is fun or a good story over being a rules nazi.

A few questions:

How experienced are you with D&D?

Would you guys prefer I homebrew up a campaign or run a pre-made adventure?

Any particular world you guys like (Dragonlance, Balder's Gate, etc) or perhaps a homebrew flat earth?

Should we find a DM that does this for money (which ends up costing us money; I've seen it be around 10 USD / session / person of up to 4 hours.) or should I run it? I can see either of these options being fun, though we could play to a lot of our inside jokes if we do a homebrew one. On the other hand, its been a minute since I ran one of these so it might take a bit for me to get back into it.

Would you like me to make your character, help you make it, or can you make it yourself?

Video/Audio, Audio only, or chat based? (I'd strongly suggest at least audio) And its not an all or nothing thing; some can do audio and others video etc.

What kind of character would you like to play?

Is there anything in particular you looking for in this game, in your character or whatever?

How often do you want to play? Once / Weekly / Bi-weekly / Monthly

How long do you want to play? 2 hours, 4 hours, some other time interval?
The illusion is shattered if we ask what goes on behind the scenes.

How experienced are you with D&D?
  - Not super experienced, but getting more familiar. I've been playing once every few weeks for the past several months.

Would you guys prefer I homebrew up a campaign or run a pre-made adventure?
  - No strong preference

Any particular world you guys like (Dragonlance, Balder's Gate, etc) or perhaps a homebrew flat earth?
  - I vote for homebrew flat earth

Should we find a DM that does this for money (which ends up costing us money; I've seen it be around 10 USD / session / person of up to 4 hours.) or should I run it? I can see either of these options being fun, though we could play to a lot of our inside jokes if we do a homebrew one. On the other hand, its been a minute since I ran one of these so it might take a bit for me to get back into it.
  - Preference would be for you to run it, but I'd play either way.

Would you like me to make your character, help you make it, or can you make it yourself?
  - I'll make one. Depending on what the plan is and if we are starting off already leveled up a little bit, I might even use one I've already got on hand.

Video/Audio, Audio only, or chat based? (I'd strongly suggest at least audio) And its not an all or nothing thing; some can do audio and others video etc.
  - Let's use Discord, as it pretty easily encompasses all three of those methods of communication.

What kind of character would you like to play?
  - I'm thinking Glamour Bard, but I'd need to think a little more about this first

Is there anything in particular you looking for in this game, in your character or whatever?
  - No idea.

How often do you want to play? Once / Weekly / Bi-weekly / Monthly
  - Bi-weekly or monthly probably if we are going to try and do a campaign.

How long do you want to play? 2 hours, 4 hours, some other time interval?
  - Maybe 2-3 hour sessions

As far as times go, Thursdays are out for me. Other weekdays are OK as long as it's no earlier than 6pm Eastern. Weekends are good, too, no real time restrictions there.

Very.  But I haven't played in a decade.

Homebrew!

Definitely a home brew flat earth.

I didn't even know dms for hire was a thing.  But I vote no.  If need be I can dm it.

I can handle making a character.

I'll follow everyone's lead but I think we'll at least need voice.

I want to play a lawful evil wizard with a bizarre sense of humor.

In general I would like to play a game where is run like a garden and not a strict storyline.  I tend to get bored acting out story lines and find creative ways to misbehave.

I'd say weekly or biweekly.

Maybe 2 hours.  I'm open to changing that.

My only D&D experience is computer games like Eye of the Beholder 2. That game was next level awesome. They dont make 'em like they used to anymore that's for sure

Have fun with your game. I'd play but I mostly use this site when I'm at work lol. So cant commit. D&D gaming rocks!  8)

Okay I'll get us started; Thursday nights and every other Friday night is out for me (due to other games.) After 8 is usually ideal. Weekends mostly whenever.

I've started up on a map for the game; I'll post it here and on the site when its a bit further along..  We don't have to use roll20, we could just use discord but it might be handy to have the map.

I'm going to strongly recommend Roll20. Especially for anyone new or very inexperienced, JD maybe you could help them import their characters into Roll20 so most of their actions are simply just clicking on the thing they want to do on their character sheet.

A few questions:

How experienced are you with D&D?  Little, last play was over 10 years ago.

Would you guys prefer I homebrew up a campaign or run a pre-made adventure?   Homebrew, but either is fine

Any particular world you guys like (Dragonlance, Balder's Gate, etc) or perhaps a homebrew flat earth?  Homebrew

Money would be an out for me, I don't spend money to play online games

Would you like me to make your character, help you make it, or can you make it yourself?  I'll try to make my own

Video/Audio, Audio only, or chat based? (I'd strongly suggest at least audio) And its not an all or nothing thing; some can do audio and others video etc.  I'm ok with audio and chat.

What kind of character would you like to play?   Not Sure

Is there anything in particular you looking for in this game, in your character or whatever?  Just some fun.  Nothing overly serious.

How often do you want to play? Once / Weekly / Bi-weekly / Monthly  Up in the air.  I have crazy work demands

How long do you want to play? 2 hours, 4 hours, some other time interval?Don't know. 2 hours

Sounds like everyone is up for homebrew; I started drafting up a world map to give some basic structure to the world. I'll likely post it here later this weekend.

Timewise, it sounds like 2-3 hours; And frequency it looks like bi-weekly or monthly if I'm reading this right. Which is good for me; I'd lean towards monthly just because I have a few games going.

As far as schedule, it sounds like most folks are most available during weekends; and nights. I'm open to suggestions in that timeframe; later is usually better for me but again fairly open once the kids are in bed (~9pm EST).

I can work around folks schedules if we can all decide on a time; you can pick it up on the fly for the most part. It sounds like we have a mix of folks that have played before and those that haven't; I'm happy to help folks get the hang of things and a lot of it you will pick up as we go along.

I've chosen something I kind of like as well. He's a farmer with aspirations of becoming a sorcerer one day! He will do everything in his power to protect those he cares about and destroy the EVIL QUEEN or whoever his sworn enemy is in this particular story. And for personal reasons, he prefers to be called by his full name. I'm not sure he has ever responded to just his first name.

So, A how do I generate a character and B, my best time is 8-11pm GMT which isn't an option 4-7EST, I realise that this maybe a big roadbump to playing as at weekends I'm usually not available either, to which I will say I am fine if this doesn't fit well with other players, and I'll watch.
Life is meaningless and everything dies.

Suicide is dangerous- other philosophies are available-#Life is great.

I use the character generator at https://www.dndbeyond.com/

It looks like the folks above used one at fastcharacter.com

I like dnd beyond because it spells things out a bit more and you have the option to go default or pick out things manually.
