Still alive and wondering what is going to happen in a week and a half when our state's stay-at-home orders are set to expire. We aren't ready to reopen yet, not from a testing standpoint and not from a "gee the curve seems flattened" standpoint. We are testing very few people, and even with that, the cases are still very much on the steep part of the upward curve.

I feel almost guilty when looking at USA's performance compared to Australia's.
USA: Total Deaths 47,676, Total recovered: 84,050 and Deaths per million population: 144
Australia: Total Deaths 75, Total recovered: 5,034 and Deaths per million population: 3.
I think that the ratio of total deaths:total recovered is very significant.

I guess we have many natural advantages, the main ones being a better climate, a far more decentralised population and I suspect that we "jumped" on it a lot sooner.

But I am horrified at the toll in some countries like Belgium, Spain, Italy, UK, France and the USA, though you aren't doing nearly as badly as those European countries.

House Crouton is doing well.  A little worried about the people in our orbit though.

Mrs. Crouton's brother is divorced and lives alone in an apartment.  He's able to work from home so that's good.  But he's been saying some things that sound... troubling.  Well suicidal is a better word.  We've offered to let him stay with us for a while.  We'll see if he bites.

This must be so difficult on people who live alone.

They had to reintubate my dad, he got worse again :( They'll do the trach today so that'll be better for his recovery. Apparently they're having a hard time getting people off ventilators so they're moving more to trachs now.

Its quite common to have issues weaning people off ventilators but I didn't know that so this was unexpected. But they must think he has a good chance otherwise they wouldn't still be treating aggressively, they don't do trachs for people they don't expect to survive as its risky to the doctors and nurses because of the aerosolisingnessnessIdon'tknowtheword

Well that is hopeful, then! Still, the constant worry must be driving you crazy. I worry about my parents getting this the most, they're in their 70s. I really wish they'd come up with a treatment.

They absolutely have a treatment in the US.  The problem is it doesn't work and kills more people than it saves.  But it is a treatment.

Also, Gayer sorry to hear that. Here is hoping this is just a bump in the road to recovery.

Video chat the wife while I'm at work

6 year old was freaking out. 3 year old came home sick from childcare with a high fever. He had uncontrollable shakes for a while which caused his older brother to cry. Vomited. Had purple lips. Temperature over 39 degrees. Saw him on the video chat. Looked like he had no energy and remnants of vomit over his cheeks. Tell the wife to ring a frigging ambulance (she was content with panadol). He was born with respiratory distress syndrome and persistent pulmonary hypertension that required nearly 2 weeks in hospital with lots of tubes and breathing equipment to keep him alive. He's always had a harder time getting sick.

She's not the kind of lady that likes to make a fuss. Well screw that and fuss that hospital!

Wish I could to hell with the job. But I'm the only one here with no one to cover me. Calling a replacement could take hours to get on site.

He'll probably get a corona virus test. Who knows even for the fact Canberra hasn't reported a case for over a week and no evidence of community transmission.... As much as we might take precautions, we cant be assured those we work with do the same.

We're feeling the isolation but that's all but some, like you, just can't isolate.
Australia as a whole is going so well but that's of little comfort in your case.

Gee, you sound so certain you know better than the geniuses who told us to stay home to begin with.

How did that come about and why haven't you convinced everyone in your corner of the world to elect you to a position where the responsibility of everyone's safety could be yours?

After vomiting a few times he seems to be doing a little better. He's always hit hard when getting sick. I've taken him to the hospital a few times. One time they gave him some steroids called 'redipred' and let him stay in a private room for the night. I felt a little embarrassed when other doctors were checking in on him the next day because it had turned him into a bubbly hyperactive happy freak lol

Childcare has been the root of 90% of the sickness he gets. Too many parents dropping off their sick kids and you know they know their kid is sick. They just give them a panadol to drop their temperature enough to drop them off and play dumb when they inevitably get the call to take their sick kid home

Wtf... You having kids?! I always assumed you where either sterile or wise's partner (thus gay)!

Joking aside, I hope your kid gets well soon. Luckily he's still very young, so even if it's the corone and he has some history of lung issues, I'm confident he'll soon be fine  :D
