my new work
« on: March 17, 2020, 09:00:24 PM »
I am employed by CDS who is contracted by Costco before this started I was passing out food samples that came to an immediate end. instead of putting us out of work, Costco put us on sanitation duty, the number of people we get through the front door on daily basis is like 5000 and more every day, And it is horde buying. What I do is where latex gloves and have a container of sanitation wipes. I wipe down the cooler doors, the freezer doors, the order tables, pick up windows and  the grocery carts, and do it over and over again.

You are doing good work. We need people to do those things.
I'm sorry. Am I to understand that when you have a boner you like to imagine punching the shit out of Tom Bishop? That's disgusting.

Were you ever allowed to eat the free samples? Ever tempted?

I heard a lot of Costco employees were getting a $750 bonus for being on the 'front line'

Now I know where they are getting the money. Lay offs  >:(

Have they got you working in coronavirus related work yet?
One of my granddaughters is a doctor and is now working in a COVID-19 ward.
Her wife (maybe I'm not au fait with the PC terms yet ;)), however, is working in quite a different field so they are "self-isolating" from each other in the same house - awkward and weird!
And my daughter's job is examining miners for "black lung disease" and so is in contact with possible infections but her husband is working from home.
When she visits here she stays outside out of contact.

So in the sentiments of Paul Robeson:
Virus, Stay 'Way From My Door

Virus keep going your way
I'll keep going my way
Virus stay away from my door

I just got a cabin
You don't need my cabin
Virus stay away from my door

Don't come up any closer
I'm so all alone
Leave my bed and my fire
That's all I own

I ain't breaking your heart
Don't go breaking my heart
Virus stay away from my door

I ain't breaking your heart
Don't start breaking my heart
Virus stay away from my door.

To the tune of "River, Stay 'Way From My Door" Paul Robeson:

Oh, for a voice like that!

Haven't had to work at the hospital for a while - that's just casual night work when someone is off and if it fits in with my other job (also night work)

It is just cleaning/sterilizing/packing of instruments used in surgeries etc. So far away from hospital patients. Still, seeing lots of blood and getting it all over your PPE is par for the course. I've seen it all. Blood, shit, brain, biopsy, bone, tape worms, etc. So when you hear of people stealing hand sanitiser or PPE from the hospitals, it really gives you the shits. Cant do the work without it! I'm certainly not going anywhere near that without it!

That sounds worse than dealing with COVID-19 patients - I wouldn't wish that on anyone but as "they" say someone's gotta do it.

Shitty pay too. Cleaners at a supermarket get paid more. Granted they have a shitty job too but standing 8 hours cleaning blood and gore all for $21 per hour is pretty shite pay. Especially when there is zero overtime opportunity. That's why I left it (kept as casual to keep my foot in the door)

When I was in the NICU ward after my 2nd was born I saw a doctor on her computer looking at her payslip. She cleared $4K per fortnight. Nice :)

A lot of salaries don't seem to match the onerousness of the job: Average Garbage Truck Driver Hourly Pay in Australia, AU$25.98
And a Construction Labourer's salary in Australia is $54,600 per year or $28 per hour.
Entry level positions start at $41,925 per year while most experienced workers make up to $92,820 per year.

Surgeons and Anesthesiologist do need a great deal of training to get there remuneration.
"Average General Surgeon Salary in Australia: AU$157,251" and and "typically makes between AU$98k - AU$362k."
But "Average Anesthesiologist Salary in Australia: AU$188,631" and "typically makes between AU$98k - AU$401k."

I've noticed on surgery accounts that the Anesthesiologist often ends up with double the Surgeon's charge (and that's a top surgeon).
Self-employed plumbers often earn more than typical surgeons - and they both "mend leaky pipes ;)".

I guess I'd better not tell what the aged pension for a couple is then (plus a bit of superannuation + a bit of dividend income with both of the latter taking a bit of a bashing).
