RIP Mike Hughes

It seems that Mike Hughes' flight attempt today resulted in a crash.  You have to have a lot of respect with anyone willing to actually test his beliefs.  I was so hoping he would get his rocket to a height finally see if there was a curve or not.

RIP sir!  :(

Since it costs 1.82¢ to produce a penny, putting in your 2¢ if really worth 3.64¢.

What? This is terrible  :'(
I'm sorry. Am I to understand that when you have a boner you like to imagine punching the shit out of Tom Bishop? That's disgusting.

I had to change the link.  I didn't like how TMZ had to show the whole flight...even zooming in on the crash.  IMHO, it was tasteless and disrespectful.

Mike Hughes' passion was that of building his own rockets ... he seemingly was not all that interested in Flat Earth conspiracies and only attached himself to secure publicity and funding. The press reports that he wanted to use his current rockets to see if the earth is curved are far overblown ... one could easily get much higher with a plane. He may have marginally been interested in FE issues after achieving his ultimate goal of reaching 100 km, but clearly that goal was much further out in his plans, and not at all a part of any of his recent experimental trials. It is regretable that Mike Hughes' fatal rocket flight on Saturday has finally turned him into a Flat Earther.

I would hope he would seek a second opinion.

First FE to receive Darwin award?
Is it possible for something to be both true and unproven?

Are things that are true and proven any different from things that are true but not proven?

He already reproduced so he's not eligible.

Rest in piece? How did he crash in a rocket and still end up in one piece. I would have thought he'd be in pieces.

Yes, Mike committed suicide by taking off with his latest spacecraft. It crashed after 1000 meters. And it didn't have any landing gear.

You are an ass you know that.  I have more respect for Mike Hughes than I will ever have for you.  Hughes was actually put a belief to the test.  Unlike you who gets all his evidence from the internet.

This was a tragic accident so have little respect for Mike Hughes and his family.

I just saw the story in my morning news feed. RIP Mad Mike. They said his main chute was torn away when he launched, and not a single backup parachute worked.

A human being has passed. While I do feel a sense of compassion, and recognize this as tragic, this was the only possible outcome of his exploits.

This was as predictable as the fate of Steve Irwin, or the crash test dummy in a Ford Pinto.

RIP Mad Mike! You did your thing, and I respect that.

His rocket was destroyed by globularists. His blood is on your hands round earthers. My heart goes out to his family. This is the scary state of where things are brothers.
I saw a slight haze in the hotel bathroom this morning after I took a shower, have I discovered a new planet?

Obviously the rocket was destroyed by 'globalists'. Absolutely no possibility that it just failed due to a technical malfunction is there?!?

I think it is distasteful how people are joking about someone's death.

My thoughts are with his family.

He died for something he truly believed and wanted to prove, this is something not everybody (most?) can say...

This is pretty disturbing. I talked to him just 10 days ago. Last discussion we had was around Mark Sargent oddly enough and getting him some additional press opportunities that came through us.

Wow.

I hope that comment is not aimed directly or otherwise at me.  I might not agree with what were obviously his passionate beliefs but I certainly wouldn't post anything distasteful or disrespectful about the death of a fellow human being. My sincere condolences go out to his family and friends.

We might not agree with their way of doing things but people like Mike Hughes make the world more interesting and it is tragic when they go.

I am talking with his team about a memorial fund to help with flatists and dare devils in their pursuits.

Thank you; I don't expect folks to agree with our or his beliefs or passions or whatever. I do expect them to be decent people.

Yet some make comments like this:

And "Heiwa" (Anders Björkman) is a detestable :( "Globist" - calling it "Mike committed suicide"!
