We  have that here too.  My daughter's daycare is short staffed because three adults, all from her group (and 7 kids from her group, including her) all got corona.  They have moved adults around and gotten in substitutes but still need to have limited hours for her group.

And these adults were all vaccinated.

And sick teachers and closed schools means many parents have to take time off work to look after their kids. The knock on effect is massive

And if everyone were vaccinated, you would still get sick people, but the data supports that they will only be sick for a fraction of that time, some probably wont even know they got infected and keep working, almost all of them wont require medical intervention to survive and the cogs of society can keep turning.

Given how smashed the health care system is - I wonder if people (before the vaccine existed) now understand why we had social distancing, masks and lockdowns. Because while the omicron strain is less severe (calling it mild is ridiculous and does not do the seriousness of it justice), imagine the economic and social damage a 'let her rip' scenario would have done on the original strain on a population with a naive immune system

My wife is a nurse, she has worked for the NHS pretty much her whole working life.
Much of it she spent on mental health wards, because of the nature of that work it has always been mandated that you have hepatitis jabs, no arguments, if you want to work there you get the jabs, and why wouldn’t you? It protects you and your family, a no brainer.

For the last ten or so years she has been an infection control nurse, the wards struggle every winter with Norovirus, winter vomiting and flu outbreaks mainly due to people not taking proper care with the washing of hands as they go around doing their business.
 Last winter there was none of that, due to the fact people were using hand sanitiser by the bucket, wearing face masks and keeping the fuck away from each other, Norovirus, winter vomiting and flu did not hit the hospitals she covers, she collates figures, does reports and visits-stricken wards to advise and brow beat idiots to do the things that they should do but don’t think applies to them.

The wards however were full, wards that weren’t usually full even at this time were full, and staff absence was through the roof, because of Covid, and as this played out it became the rule to ask about whether those in the wards were vaccinated and as the numbers of inoculated increased it became abundantly clear that those who got really ill were 90%+ the unvaccinated.

Take the jab or get a job where you won’t be missed or endanger those around you. A gravedigger maybe, burying those who maintained their free-dumb in the face of common sense and evidence.

This point is important to keep in mind.  If everyone were vaccinated then the hospitals might be in better shape but this variant would still be kicking a massive hole in the workforce.

My city, over 430K population and ~99% vaccinated. Omicron has infected thousands of people. Currently 1 person is in ICU

Read the words "survival benefit" and try to understand what that means.  In case you can't figure it out, it means they look at a persons survivability. If one person has factors that will decrease their chances of surviving, such as being a dumbass anti-vaxxer, then they will be passed over to someone who will have a better chance of surviving.

Seventeen of 21 patients had purchased veterinary formulations, only 3 had received prescriptions and 1 had an unknown source for their drug.59 These reports indicate that despite its absence from NIH COVID-19 treatment guidelines and lack of United States Food and Drug Administration approval, off-label use of ivermectin by lay people and physicians has continued throughout the pandemic.58 It is possible that inconclusive ivermectin studies and meta-analyses contributed to this activity.
