The anti lockdown tweeters are saying the police fired on "peaceful protesters" but the videos I've seen show the protesters charging the police.

Seems like some of the AntiVaxxers in Mississippi have been buying animal grade Ivermectin  ( Horse Dewormer, or Sheep Drench)  from feed stores.

At first I was pretty irritated at people like Joe Rogan and Bret weinstein pushing this but I've changed my mind. This may be the most impressive troll campaigns ever. There are headliners where health inspectors are having to tell people not to use horse dewormers. And now I assume Republicans will start taking it just to own the libs.

One of my internet friends lives in Texas and her parents (they were vaccinated and not weirdos) both got covid. Their doctor prescribed Ivermectin to them.

It really doesn't make sense that Ivermectin would work for COVID.  It's used to treat parasites.  My dogs' heart worm medicine has Ivermectin in it.

Though if a doctor is going to prescribe it, I'm sure it will be in a dosage much lower than the agricultural supply of it meant for cows and horses, thus not causing harm if it's taken.

A lot of liberals have been hesitant and hopefully this will get most of them to go for it. Conservatives on the other hand are largely in the "never" camp so this won't help.

I certainly expect this news to provide a jump in vaccination rates.

If we're lucky we can push the percentage up high enough.

Well, I know what Ivermectin is used for, but there are lots of drugs that are used for more than one thing because they do more than one thing. (I am not trying to promote Ivermectin)

Yeah, the dosage was a human dosage. I can't remember what it was, but it was in tablet form in a blister pack. If people are going to self medicate out of fear, maybe doctors should consider prescribing the human dosage. Millions of people have taken Ivermectin, so at least we know it is safe. Any drug can be poison if you take too much. Fear of covid comes in waves, just like the virus has surges. I wonder if people poisoning themselves with these drugs corresponds with the surges. I'm too lazy to look it up! lol

So Trump went to Alabama to hold a rally, for what I'm not entirely sure, but he actually did something good here.  He told his crowd that he recommends they get the vaccine and admitted that he received the vaccine.  You would think a crowd full of rabid Trump supporters would hang on his every word, but they booed him when he told them to get the vaccine.  Apparently Trump could shoot someone in the streets and not lose their support but recommending this vaccine is a step too far for them.  These are the people that we desperately need to get the vaccine, and there is very little anyone can do to convince them to get it.

My wife went out to dinner with 2 of her friends this weekend, both of whom are vehemently against the COVID vaccine, despite them not being against other vaccines.  It sounds like they have been listening to the social media misinformation and spouting nonsense about the hospitals being full of vaccinated COVID patients and that the vaccinated people are the ones spreading COVID, not the unvaccinated.  It's sad really.

I find it hard to believe that EVEN REDNECKS would just down a bottle of farm grade pills willy nilly. When you go that far "off grid" you tend to do just a LITTLE bit of research before you start experimenting on yourself or loved ones.  Smells like BS to me.

Your first point is more applicable to the beginning of the pandemic.  But at this point quite a bit of research has gone into the effective of a lot of different drugs with covid, Ivermectin being among them.  The research currently indicates that it doesn't do much beyond deworming horses.

A doctor might prescribe it as a kitchen sink approach to treatment.  If I were dying of covid I'd want the kitchen sink also.  Regarding rednecks, to be fair I think the news has exaggerated this a little because they don't release a lot of numbers backing up how many times hillbillies are ODing on Ivermectin.  I'm guessing it's just barely enough to raise the eyebrows of health officials.

If they're getting it from a feed store, it's probably a liquid. It's much easier to give livestock liquid medicine than tablets. Which means people have to figure out the dosage, and some of them are obviously taking too much.  Ivermectin is not just a livestock drug, though. It has been used in humans to treat various parasites, like lice and intestinal worms. If it's prescribed by a doctor, you would get a normal human dose and would be much safer than trying to figure it out on your own.

It's probably not rednecks poisoning themselves, at least not the ones who have raised any cattle. There are dumbasses in the city too. lol

If you look at the total population vaccinated it's only 58% as stated in the article, which is not great. Also stated in the article, is that is nowhere near high enough to stop the spread. Also stated is that they pretty much abandoned all other mitigation efforts.

So not really a surprise.

78% of their eligible population over 12 are vaccinated, as stated in the article.
