They don't seem to be handling it well.  A few things to consider is that the situation in China is that they've relied on authoritarian lockdowns to fight the pandemic.  Which has worked so far.  And their vaccine is not very good.

So now they're in a situation where their citizens lack both natural immunity and vaccinated immunity.  It could be that if they let it get out of hand then China would look like we looked about a year ago.

Lock downs worked on previous strains but not against the omicron one.

There's a balance that needs to be found and China, pegging 'success' at being 'zero cases' is stupid

Also, nationalist pride by shunning effective vaccines in favour of their sub par one was also a stupid move

It is a very eerie thing.  I watched Contagion at the start of the pandemic and again recently.  It's interesting the things that happened that a filmmaker would have never thought of.  An entire city screaming because they're starving to death from a lockdown is one of them.
