Masks nearly vanished in Utah for a while.  But now I'm seeing maybe 10% of people wearing them.  I don't think any mask mandate has been reinstated in Utah yet.

Schools are going to open in a few weeks.  Our genius state government has passed a law banning schools from requiring masks. 

Florida!  We're coming for your #1 covid status!

For masks, I've been continuing to wear them when I go into potentially crowded indoor places like a Walmart or a grocery store. I'll probably continue wearing a mask when I walk into a place like Walmart for a very long time, because I haven't had so much as a cold in almost a year and a half and clearly that's a result of social distancing and wearing a mask in places where it's not open air and/or I can't ensure I'll be able to maintain adequate boundaries to prevent getting sick. Plus Walmart is gross and it feels like masks are the right thing to wear at the very least.

If we're going to mask up again then I have decide if I'm going to use N95 masks.  They're actually available again and the difference in effectiveness between them and a cloth mask is insane.

In this video this guy claims that N95 masks are some 50 times more effective.  But they're so uncomfortable.

They are only effective if fitted properly. If there is a gap anywhere along the facial interface then air can simply bypass the filter and it will provide little to no protection to the wearer. Fitting them correctly can be a challenge if
your face doesn't conform to the mask in the first place.

If it has an exhaust flap it also provides little protection to others if you are infected as air and droplets are just expelled.

Unless you know what you're doing, a cloth mask is far better at protecting others, and provides the same minor protection to you as just shoving an N95 on your face.

With cloth masks I'm at the mercy of everyone else.  It only takes one person wearing it under their nose to make it pointless for everyone else in the room to wear one.

I'm still wearing my mask, pretty much everyone else I see are still wearing theirs, got given free ones on the train the other day as it was extra required to wear them in ekstra class, going to stick them in the kids' memory boxes. It has been nice catching less colds the past year (not cold free entirely, because children don't wear masks and then they pass their disgusting germs onto me)

This is a great cartoon. I do think the govt (several of them, anyway) have done a terrible job on messaging. They lied when they should have been straightforward, and now people do not trust them.
