Maybe it's time to give Trump and his admin credit?
« on: January 17, 2020, 07:12:48 PM »
I have vented my issues with Trump many times, though I am actually starting to think they (him and his admin) are doing something right with the economy.

Ok, the first year fine....let's say thanks Obama.... however, it keeps getting better and better year after year. The stats are record breaking in so many areas.

Even for myself personally, 12 years of business and 2019 set an all time record, plus this January is on par to break my all time January record by a large amount. Most of my friends/business associates etc are experiencing the same outcome. Some record breaking others just doing extremely well.

I even found myself nervous thinking of a democrat possibly taking over 2021 earlier today.

Where am I wrong here? It seems Trump 2020 may actually be worth all his nonsense, for the greater good unless proven otherwise.

Sanders and Warren want to give away trillions of cash and the also-rans promise clean water, less crime and more rainbows.

Tough choice.

Just imagine how much better the ecomony would have been if Trump hadn't started his stupid trade wars.

On another related issue,  what makes you think the current level of government debt is sustainable?

Trump has trashed the deficit.

Well to be fair, bush trashed the deficit and Obama doubled down on that fun task.

Yes, I hate the trade wars, however, China seems like they may actually start to cave some... So maybe Trump's strong arm tactics may have a positive effect, I dunno. Though from a novice opinion of the world economy, I would think we would be better off without the trade wars....plus history shows in previous wars both sides lost.

Though maybe I am wrong, as my companies are directly affected by multiple tariffs and are currently having the success stated previously.

Also, I never said the debt was sustainable...though it wasn't sustainable starting with Bush jr

The question is, what is Trump and what is Congress/competent people?
His strong arm policies and push for more oil drilling, plus the high spending is probably helping, but its like burning the forest to get farmland.  It works short term but eventually the land is used up.

Also, as someone who works at a major oil and gas drilling company, the word is that wells and jobs are plentiful.  Profits, less so.  Because oil is too cheap.  Needs to be like $100 a barrel.

Of course, having manufacturing jobs come back helps, until you find out no one wants to trade because we're assholes/too expensive.

But again, how much is him and how much is not?  Not even Obama had power to affect the economy that much.  Just support or not policies.  Not write them.

The economy is doing well.  And at a certain point we can't keep calling it Obama's economy.

But a few points I'd like to make.

1.  This idea that the democrats are worse at the economy than the republicans is just false.  I can't find much data that backs this point.  I can find a lot of data to supports the reverse.

2.  We're setting our money on fire at an insane rate.  He's making Obama look extremely frugal at this rate.

If a democrat were to win then the only reason we'd have a crash is if that democrat decided that free money and no rules is not sustainable.

This isn't an economy.  It's a time bomb.

Well to be fair every many major countries are burning through cash like it's growing on trees. Especially China (trying to hide the fact their economy is down turning big time), Japan, the UK etc etc.

As for Dems being terrible for the economy, I was more so talking about this new generation of retards, not the older Dems. I would actually purpose the older Dems were better for the people and economy than the Republicans.

These new ones, they hate success, reward failure and punish success....not to mention they want to bottle neck business. That is just the tip of the iceberg

No. There is such a thing as too much regulation. There can be disagreement on the appropriate level, but to just assume all regulation is good and all de-regulation is bad is just silly.

Srsly though, we need some regulations. When multi billion dollar corporations cry about regulations you know they just want to watch the world burn.

They may cry about good regulations but they'll certainly cry about bad regulations. Them crying about it is no evidence whatsoever about the goodness or badness of the regulation.

They don't wanna watch the world burn, they want to decrease costs and increase profit.

You put words in my mouth though, saying I think all regulations are bad.

Multiple businesses of mine are heavily regulated.... I don't mind some of them and I take extreme care to follow as closely as possible or exceed guidelines. Despite what the media says, people like myself actually do care about the environment and don't want to trash it for a buck.

It's nice to look at yourself in the mirror and not be disgusted
