A werepenguin development

So in today's episode of "Fun With SMF," I made a new forum. I have a buddy that wants to play Werepenguin, but I don't think he's going to sign up for an account at FES so it got me thinking, what if I set up a board just for playing online social games? Well, now I have. And because I'm cheap AF, I didn't get a .com. Because .space was much cheaper. Fight me. Anyway, the grand vision for it is that it doesn't replace playing games here, but that it gives a more dedicated platform for playing Werepenguin as well as whatever other games might work well in a forum environment. Plus, since I'm an admin on my own board, I can play around with things like "anonymized" games (users have a name specific to only a game) and whether PMs are allowed in certain groups etc.

Personally I'm moving there until the FES just embraces it and becomes the Werepenguin Earth Society.

I joined.  As long as the fun continues, I'm game.

Well the most excellent of the games will probably still be here, simply because of the chemistry, but hopefully over time I'll pick up a few people that otherwise wouldn't have known such a thing existed, and maybe... JUST MAYBE... they'll join the FES too!

Also, I'm hoping to add additional games into the mix. I have a couple ideas that I was reading about. Mafia is basically the same thing, just with a different skin on it. Are You The Traitor also looks like a fun one. Maybe someone creative enough can help get a forum version of D&D going. Who knows, the possibilities are endless!

It's happening!

We have a Character Manager on the Werepenguin site now! That means you can log in with your main account, create any number of characters you want to be able to use to role play, and they are all available to use for posting and playing games. And for anyone that wants to run a D&D-type campaign, let me know if there are any tweaks that need to be made to fit your game.

This will be a game that pits a single Werepenguin against a hoard of unsuspecting people. You'll be assigned an identity, you will be messaged with login credentials for that special identity, and upon logging into the forum, you'll see a special board that you didn't see before. The Bodysnatcher Sanctum. Upon entering into the Sanctum, you're going to notice some things. Namely, your ability to PM while using your strange new identity is gone. You cannot select a unique avatar. You cannot use a signature. You are unable to create new threads. You won't even be able to see the rest of the forum. Only Bodysnatcherland.

While in the Sanctum, people will certainly die. Here's the thing though. When the Bodysnatcher kills, it takes the skin of its victim and wears it. Until it kills again, when it takes the skin of its newest victim. Each night, it kills and moves into a body. Each day, the living choose someone to murder, and hope they land on the Bodysnatcher.

In practice, this means that when you die, your login to the special account is revoked and given to the Bodysnatcher so they can masquerade as your fallen character. Your viewing access to the game thread also goes away. POOF. You are in the dark with respect to what happens in the game after your death. When the game is over, I'll move the entire game thread out of the Sanctum and into the regular Werepenguin area so everyone can read the whole thing after the fact.

So. Who wants to take on the Bodysnatcher?

You should be receiving an activation email momentarily. If you have any issues there, let me know. PM me if you want me to use a different username than the one I entered and I can update that too.

Cleantalk does have some sensitivity training that can be adjusted. We haven’t had a single spam account successfully register yet, which (from the moderation/cleanup standpoint) has been great.
