Seems to me we're overlooking the obvious here.  Iran won't let us access the black box.  They shoot down their own plane.  The only reasonable conclusion is that they were redirected at the last minute to fly a Qantas path and they were shot down to cover up the truth.

You've lost me,  it wasn't their own plane,  it was a Ukraine Airlines 737,  not sure what you are getting at with the Qantas flight path comments.

Sure.  America could have shot it down but to do it would have required going into Iranian airspace while they were on high alert, undetected, to blow it up.  Possible but highly unlikely given Iran didn't immediately jump to that conclusion.

My point was that wise asserted a fact and assigned blame without having any facts then immediately changed his tune without so much as an 'I'm sorry for accusing America of mass murder of civillians without evidence'.  Especially given how sure he was just a day ago.

Think about it, the general was killed because he had a CIA agent on his team, pointed his location to US airforce. CIA agent mentioned fled to the United States after the incident and defected. There are many CIA agents in the Middle East, and they do sabotage and murder, just like in American movies. for example, one of them killed the Russian ambassador Karlov in Ankara and another shot down the Russian plane. Both of them were Turkish security personnels, and CIA / Fetö agents. It has been verified by courts after both of those events.  Iran has no reason to throw a missile ground to air here. However, a CIA agent working in the air defense did so and it was intended to stay on Iran's responsiblity.

Hundreds of people from several nationalities have been killed. I imagine Ukraine is pissed at the destruction of an expensive plane as well. I would hope Iran is completely forth coming and stops making excuses. Whoever launched the missile should be charged as well

America cant take it easy either. It was their actions in killing the general of Iran that has made the entire region a hairs breadth away from a nasty war. Iran (or more precisely the dumbarse who fired the missile) can be blamed blame for the mistake and deaths. Anytime you fire a missile you should know who the hell your firing on. But Americas hands aren't exactly clean either. They try to peddle that the assassination of the general was to 'deescalate conflict' in the region. Well they should try and tell that to the families of the hundreds of people now killed. I dont think they will think the world is now a better place.

Has the threat been removed though? Or has it hardened millions of people who supported that general to want 'death to America' even more?

The middle east will never have an absence of threat to western values and ideals. Especially when those westerners are killing and bombing them with perceived impunity.

Even the military admits that the killing of the general was the most 'extreme' option that was designed for the President not to take in light of less extreme / more palatable measures. Personally I think Trump probably enjoyed being the extreme mofo.   

Iran will probably quiet down though. Especially the disaster of PR in shooting down a civilian plane. Even the funeral of the General couldn't be without dozens of people getting killed. Just a massive face palm is all you can do
