Based on the aforementioned reasoning, the earth would reside in the heavens of the sun, seeing as the sun's diameter is about 109 times that of the earth's. The sun is definitely not much smaller than the earth.

. . . traditional hinduism holds that the flood waters reached the level of the moon. . . . Many times have I heard people state that the earth must be round because the moon is round or the sun is round.  When people say this without being familiar with the aforementioned traditional and most ancient (actually the original and oldest) worldview, they speak before they know and without considering.

Umm . . . this is Hindu tradition: which is to say, it's a way of explaining the world we see around us in a very particular way. The ancients did not have a modern understanding of science. I don't really care if people are familiar with the tradition or not in order to make comments on the roundness or otherwise of the Earth: it's simply not relevant.

Modern science is most irrelevant, especially with reguard to having any kind perspective of the whole thing.

The "perspective" in this case is objectivity, something which is impossible if you base your experimental results (or anything for that matter) on traditions, religion, or any kind of per-determined mindset.

Quote
Modern science which goes against thousands of years of tradition and genuine science from every religion and tradition everywhere worldwide is the actual abnormality.

Appeal to tradition, and as such, a fallacy.

You know, although you do a good job of seeming like you're well informed, you're kind of not, but there's too much for me to be bothered commenting on here. I'll confine my comments to these:

Quote from: "Dionysios"
Modern science is most irrelevant, especially with reguard to having any kind perspective of the whole thing.  The only area in which it may possibly give an advantage would lie in quantitative description.  The "qualitative" value of modern science is negative if it is anything. . . . Modern science which goes against thousands of years of tradition and genuine science from every religion and tradition everywhere worldwide is the actual abnormality.  I will say that again because it needs repeating:  Modern science is what is actually abnormal.

It's funny that modern science is what's responsible for you being able to write these comments on the internet, using a computer, transmitting your message packets down a wire using . . . guess what? The benefits of modern science! Wow. You know, for something which is abnormal and goes against thousands of years of tradition it seems to be doing a pretty good job here.

You know, filling up very large posts with huge amounts of quoted material, questionable reasoning and bad use of opinion disguising itself as evidence makes for a weak argument.

Quote from: "Dionysios"
Mundi does not distinguish between technology and modern science. I will never bother to explain why I use methods that he takes for granted, which is irrelevant to my post anyway. he appears to be the one who is uninformed and uses bad reasoning and has stupid opinions. He is the one who has pathetic posts. None of his posts have had any substantial or useful content. All his posts amount to a bunch of utterly unoriginal naysaying which this sit is full of already. Everything he wrote is useless and wrong. It would be good if if he chose to reply to a post of mine he told me something useful that I did not already know.

Wow! Aren't we angry?  :?

I think I know the difference between modern science and technology: the latter is an application of the former. As such, they're not really separable; real technological advances would be pretty much impossible without science to drive them forward. I think my point is still valid.

You're entitled to your views about my posts; I happen to disagree. What is a little wearing is a lot of quotation of the viewpoints of other people over presentation of fact, and appeal to philisophical traditions and religion in order to demonstrate a case. If people can't agree on the shape of the Earth then they're not going to agree on this either; it really doesn't advance the debate very much. You probably feel differently.

Unoriginal naysaying or critical analysis? You clearly have your views. My aims are not necessarily to prove my case, since it was clear very early on that this is pretty much going to be impossible. I do think that when people post, however, what they write should be true, accurate, precise, well-reasoned, and informed. When a lack of these is demonstrated, I often reply. I've noticed this in an occasional post of yours; all I've done is point it out; I think what I've said is reasonable.

"Stupid opinions" and "pathetic posts" is a little harsh if you expect gentlemanly behaviour in return.

You're clearly well-read and knowledgable, so I'm not going to attempt to offer something you don't know (mostly because I don't think it's my job to present a load of information on this site: this part is a debate forum; there is an information repository elsewhere). My main concern is that whatever is debated, it should be done with intelligence and accuracy. I have my views, certainly, and am entitled to express them; you are likewise. But if there are flaws in my reasoning, point them out: don't merely state that they're "useless and wrong" without explaining why. It's this lack of precision, ambiguity, and generalizations which tend to incur criticism on this forum in the first place.

Lastly: chill. It's only a stupid forum on whether the Earth is flat. Although I don't mind a bit of rough and tumble, and have given as good as I've got around here, getting personal about it is kind of, well, unseemly. I've tried to avoid criticising anybody directly; rather, it's their arguments which deserve the debate.

I'm sorry...Dionysios, did you just call Mundi a nigger?  And...wait...did you just mean it as an insult? This is all rhetorical, as I know you did.  Now for the non-rhetorical part: Did you just wake up one morning and decide, "hey, I hate black people."? Were you born stupid?
Because guess what?! You're a racist.  You know, I'm tempted to find out where you live, fly over there, and beat the stupid ignorant hick out of you with a crowbar.

And then the rest of your post, when compared to that, is a whole lot less idiotic, but when not overshadowed by your racist views, I see they're also stupid.

Quote
Prove me wrong if I am mistaken, but I was never under the impression that I was obliged to debate alternative science posts. I never had the intention to debate per se. My primary interest is finding other flat earthers.

Firstly, you should be finding other flat-earthers in the "general discussion" area as alternative sciences clearly states: "Please feel free to discuss any other "alternative" science in here." (I'd like to note that racism isn't an alternative science) It says any other alternative science, meaning anything other than flat-earth.

Next, you posted about this, that means you want to have a discussion about it (otherwise you're just spamming) and Mundi disagreed with you and was willing to discuss why.   Now unless your idea of a discussion is that everyone agrees with you, you should try to answer Mundi's points, rather than ridicule them and resort to racist insults.

Quote
I could not care less about your ignorant posts. (They almost suck the knowledge out of the reader.)

It's like the pot calling the kettle black, only the kettle's silver.  You're being a fucking racist in your post , jackass. That sucks the intelligence out of people, not well-informed posts like Mundi makes.

Quote
If you gave your best, then your best is underinformed posts with a pointless objective to begin with. How indeed is stating that tradition is "simply irrelevant" an informed critique? (It's plainly merely your own anti-traditional opinion.) You need to take a big dose of your own advice.

Yay! Not only are you a racist, but you're also stupid (of course, the two do generally go hand-in-hand), he said that as the ancients didn't have an understanding of modern science, their measurements and statements about the world weren't relevant; which is true, if our modern science disproves what they said, their statements aren't relevant.

Quote
Your type was obvious to me from the beginning. You knew your position from the beginning, and no matter how much information I present, it would never make a difference.

Fortunately, you were clever, and decided to avoid his personality flaw by cunningly presenting no information to back up what you originally postulated.  Good for you.

Quote
I have believed the earth is flat for a number of years. I was a member of Charles Johnson's Flat Earth Society while he was alive.

Good, you were ignorant before I found you.  Of course, this statement is irrelevant and pointless.

I realize this particular post may make me enemies, but so what? One can tell a lot about a man by who his enemies are.

Yes, and when his enemies are inelligent, free-thinking individuals, we can normally tell that this man is a racisit fuck.

As far as I am concerned, this is a website for flat earthers, and you are a parasite. If you ever fancied I would be interested in debating this, then you were barking up the wrong tree.

As far as I'm concerned, racists are fucking parasites on the world, and should have the crap kicked out of them.  And if you don't feel like discussing your opinions with someone who disagrees with them, don't post about them on the fucking internet.

Dionysios:

Some reply is in order, although I wish it wasn't necessary.

There are a number of ways I could react; but I guess really I'm just sad. If you're that upset about all of this that you resort to using pseudo-racist personal insults, then I guess it's time to quit. I don't really care that much about what you said as regards myself, but the slur you used is not cool, and I'm not going to get into this any more with someone who uses that kind of technique or language.

Respect is something that one earns; common courtesy is taken for granted. I think you've gone over the line, and from your own post it would seem that you know you have.

I'm not going to reply to everything; most of it isn't worth the time. But I do have a few last things to say to you. First, Other Alternative Science is a discussion forum, as stated in its subheader; debate is anticipated and expected on this forum. You don't have to debate, but the way to deal with that is just not to do it, not to actually go as low as slandering the people you disagree with. Second, I do have my views, and I enjoy presenting them; you seem to also. Almost everyone on this forum has one view or the other; in fact, it would seem many more than half don't share your views, so mine are hardly unusual. Third, this seems to be a public forum, unless I've missed something. I, as much as anyone else around here, can express his views on this issue, and I don't think anyone except Daniel has a right to say how members must use the site. If you want to use it in a particular way, that's great; but I, and others, should be allowed to use it for other legitimate purposes, such as debate.

I don't want to spend more time engaged with someone who feels such so strongly that he disrespects people he disagrees with; racism, or the use of it, is not something I need to encounter. I'm sorry you feel you had to do that. I'll happily engage in debate anyone else.

Dionysios, I'm not calling you a racist based on your views, I'm calling you a racist based on the fact that you used a world that essentially means "black person" as an insult.  It's like calling someone "gay", there's nothing wrong with being gay, and to use that term as an insult merely shows that you're anti-homosexual.

Also, you seem to be confused about why I'm here.  I'm not on this site to cleverly root out "true believers" and attack them, I'd be perfectly willing to discuss and even accept he concept of a flat earth, if you could show me plausible evidence.

And finally, if you're not going to defend your points, you really shouldn't be posting, unless, of course, you feel like appologizing to Mundi.

I have two questions here one if you arent rascist why did you use that word as an insult? It carries a negative connotation true but only as applied to black people claiing me that as I'm not black wouldn't be offensive it would be stupid. If that is what you think is the strongest insult you seem to be rascist cause as 6string said your using a word meaning black person (a word which most black people find offensive) as an insult. Why not simply use ucurses like fucking bastard as in Dionysios you are a fucking bastard.
Also if your anti American and anti imperialism and why exactly are you in the  American millitary?
Lastly see this isnt a private forum it says a flatearthsociety.org skeptics and believers welcome.
As for our purpose being to roote out true beleivers and give them hell thats not what we've been doing ( well most of use) we've been trying to get them to prove their points with such things as logic. Finally do you not see the irony in saying your not rascist especially agaisnt black people by pointing out all rascism agaisnt black people comes from Jews? By irony I mean to say you clearly are prejudiced and close minded I mean your a Holocaust denier who believes the Earth iis flat and uses racial slurs on those who disagree. You only ever presented one cognent argument and thats not by your words but by your very exisitence, an argument for stronger screening of people before they're put aboard submarines.

It's wrong to hate people, which is why I hate you and want to assault you with a deadly weapon.

Seriously, racism is not the problem. General hatred is. Everyone is racist, just some people pretend everyone is the same color and will mask it with a fake desire to assault anyone that brings race into a world full of race.

Perhaps it is time to start a Homophobe thread and threaten assault on everyone that isn't as "open-minded" as you are. Or an abortion thread and protect a womans right to kill a baby with threats of assault against others. Or a molestation thread about assaulting people that are able to love a child in a pure and beautiful way.

You are so full of hate.
