Some jackass has got himself some bot program and is telling it to post X ammount of posts. Happened on my site :(

The jokes on him! I shut it down out of spite haha.

I actually feel bad for you guys. I haven't seen another forum that has half as much spammers, trolls, and bots as this one.

Surely you could ban its IP address?

I dunno if the owner has access to the source, but Id be happy to write
some php to block people with restricted IP addresses.

The user could be using a proxy. And there probably is more than one person doing it.

Yeah.  Being that there are thousands of open proxies in just the US alone, not to mention millions of other connections, there's no way we could block every bot.

Actually, a friend of mine just discovered something. Though I am a bit hesitant to post it in a public forum, as the offenders might wise up if they read it.

One thing you can do to defend against spam bots is disabling the registration page and making your own. That way it would at least take a real person to make an account.

This board does have an IP-banning function, but only the admins have that ability, so the mods must forward the IP and username of the user to be banned to the admins. That's why it sometimes takes a while before a given spammer is banned; none of the admins might be online at the time.

I can ban its IP, but it will just come back with a new one. The only way to stop them is to implement more measures to keep them from registering. I might turn on admin account activation, although I'd rather find a less time consuming way if possible.

Sorry guys, as am in Melbourne, haven't been able to log on as often as normal. Got rid of about 20 posts just then. Thanks for being patient all.

We have been, they all come from different IP addresses.


EDIT: ok I think they're all gone (for now)
