Werepenguin XVII: Werepenguinwolf - The Discussion Thread
« on: August 17, 2019, 09:21:40 PM »
This is going to be a more classic game of Werewolf. It will not have the D&D elements that some of the other narrators have been building in. It will have murder, suspense, intrigue, murder, deceit, and suspense though. Plus additional intrigue. Depending on the number of players, I have a broad selection of roles to introduce.

Assuming we have somewhere in the 10-12 range, this is what I have planned:

Voting style: Daily Variation (based on a roll)
2: Standard voting, but the next night the target of the Werewolves becomes a new Werewolf
3: The first player accused and seconded is instantly eliminated with no further vote
4: Two eliminations instead of one
5: No voting. Instead, the player last chosen by the psychic is revealed (name & role)
   6-8: Standard voting
9: Same as the previous day
10: Elimination voting (may take longer than usual)
   11: Accusations only, no voting
12: The Werewolves' target loses their ability on the following night instead of dying

Possible Roles:
Final player count will determine how many of each role appear, and will be announced at the beginning of the game
   Villager: No special abilities
Werewolf: Murderous SOB. Can kill in the night like usual
Seer: Each night, can inquire about alignment of one other player
Old Hag: Each night, the Old Hag places a pox on another player (this is announced). That player cannot participate in open discussion, voting, or any other daily activities. This player is also safe from any means of elimination on that same day. Old Hag may not place a pox on herself. Old Hag may not place a pox on any player more than once in a game.
Lycan: Not a werewolf, but appears as one to the seer. Player thinks they are human.
Hunter: When killed, may choose to kill any other player in the game (or shoot weapon straight up into the air, thus killing no one).
Sorceress: Team Evil. Looks for the seer each night. Does not know who the Werewolves are, and the Werewolves do not know who the Sorceress is. Seer sees the Sorceress as a villager.
Lone Wolf: Wins only if he is the last player alive or remains alive with only one non-Werewolf player left in the game.

If we end up with 13+ players, I have some additional roles I can incorporate.

I haven't decided yet whether lynching the narrator will be part of this one. I'm leaning toward no, simply because I'm basing this off an already-established variation of Werewolf. But either way, I will make sure the rules, roles, and format are all clear before we get started.

I assume there's an instruction manual available?
Game's in day/night cycles, each one individually being 24 hours. So 24 hours of day, followed by 24 of night.
Night: players that were selected to be penguinwolfs (as they're apparently called this time) kill one villager in secret.
Day: everyone tries to work out who's a penguinwolf, and votes to kill them. At the end of the day the votes are tallied and they die and we hope it was an evil.

Plus the abilities of whatever roles are in play. That's the basics. Usually pretty easy to pick up.

I'll post rules, but FYI this is going to be the most approachable Werepenguin game in a while. Perfect for a first time player. There won't really be much for D&D-style role playing elements. You'll have a role with a well-defined alignment and goal, and you want your team to win in the end. PM groups are going to be allowed. That's where a lot of the game will probably transpire. People will lie, people will strategize, people will over- and under-think how to play, feelings will be hurt, I mean it's really the entirety of human existence compressed into a fun social game.

Alright, last call for signups before things get going. Roles will be sent tomorrow via PM, sometime between 6pm and 8pm Eastern time in the US. Any additional players are welcome to sign up before that 6pm deadline. After that, it's closed and I think 8pm ET will be the day/night transition time throughout.
