Well we need to test someone, might as well be Bom.

Okay, i can't go down the secret stairs yet. I'm going back to the forge to get a sword, maybe I can chop the brambles.
I'm sorry. Am I to understand that when you have a boner you like to imagine punching the shit out of Tom Bishop? That's disgusting.

This isn't the lynching vote, this is just to have Jane tell us if he's a good guy or a vampire that needs to be killed by having blunt, splintery wooden objects forced through his chest area.

I ask those digging up graves for hedge clippers.
One of them looks at you curiously and hands you an ornate dagger.

So this book I found, does that mean there is more than one library Jane?
It may just mean you're expecting a bit much from a town library.

[Full cavity search of bom tishop]
The vampire hunter emerges from the inn and makes a generally disgusted face. "You can do that if you want. Not gonna be much help in finding out whether he's a member of the undead though. Ew."

Okay, i can't go down the secret stairs yet. I'm going back to the forge to get a sword, maybe I can chop the brambles.
You cut at the weeds and brambles as best you can; you make a little headway, but they seem to be far too thick to clear them out without something more.

We all know deep in our hearts that Jane is the last face we'll see before we're choked to death!

You walk into the profane building. Boxes flicker ominously, those few that work. There is surprisingly little left in there since the owners left.
In the back room however you stumble upon what seems to be a ouija board of some description. All the letters and numbers are arranged upon it, though the surface is not smooth and each letter seems to be part of something that moves down when you touch it. Strangely, rather than being in alphabetical order, the letters begin with qwerty.
Is it sufficiently witchy?

I try to contact the witches with the qwerty ouija board!
You find a nearby cup and hold it over the ouija board. It takes a bit of practise to be able to hold it in such a fashion that it glides smoothly over the uneven surface, and with bated breath you watch to see what it spells out.
H...A...I...L... and then it selects the blank, rectangular bar below all the letters. S...A...T...A...N

Quietly, you stand up, put the ouija board away, and back out, resolving to not mess with forces beyond your ken for at least a minute.

You find a number of bladed weapons. Swords, axes, daggers, things you can't even name offhand... None seem like they would be any more effective than just the sword.

Jane the vampire hunter walks out of the inn, glancing around the town. At least it looks like people are active. She smiles to herself; maybe they have a chance.
One person's preparing a bbq, one person appears to be suggesting setting stuff on fire, someone else wants to do truly weird stuff to Bom Tishop... Quite a place.

Then she walks back into the inn and retires to her room, taking care to lock the door. She'll be awake and out in time to test, but gods, she needs a break, and she doesn't want to be out there when the vampire does its thing that night.

Bugger, Jura was hoping that the stake that had killed this vampire was still available, seems not.

Attracted by the noise in the church she goes to investigate, people seem to be having trouble with some brambles in a stairwell leading underground.

“step aside good towns folk, I have in my hand Puppy-slayer, fresh from the forge and infused with the blood of a hell-hound, if this doesn’t work, I think I have some round-up back at my house”

Jura sets to with her sword.

You attack the weeds with the lit blade. Unsurprisingly, the fire catches, and spreads, and roars; you have to take a hasty step back.
Drawn by the attention, the vampire hurries up to the church. She goes to the altar, and looks down the pit; a small inferno blazes within the stairway, brambles and weeds and nettles all alight and all burning.
"Holy shit! You could've just used weedkiller in conjunction with cutting, but nope! You just had to set it on fire, oh my god."
It will be a while before the fire has diminished enough that it is safe to descend. Hopefully something remains.

“Fucking vampire hunters, sitting on her ass and then carping about stuff when it’s too late” Jura muttered.

When the smoke cleared and the heat was bearable she hacked her way down to see what was there.

You started a fire by mixing oil with hellhound blood, set a huge mass of weeds aflame, and on stop of that there's a staircase that's currently boiling hot and basically untouchable even as the weeds covering it were consumed.
It's gonna be a while. This is on you. There's more than one way through every problem, but if you rush then there'll be consequences.

We have lots of water. I pour 3 x 5 gallon pails down the steps.
Searing steam rushes up and hits you in the face. The flames covering much of the stairway are doused, with only a few embers remaining, but the plants were not completely burnt through. You'll need to hack through them. You move to try, but the metal of the stairs is hot underfoot and you quickly recoil.
You can still see the distant light of flames, all the way down wherever the stairs lead.
