Thinking about getting a new pet
« on: July 10, 2019, 02:00:45 PM »
I have been thinking about getting a new pet. Preferably something with low maintenance.

Maybe a Pedigreed pet rock?

Any of you lot got experience with pet rocks from that breeder?

Opinions, price, shipping?

I have always found my mind to give me company. If you need more, a cat is always a good choice.  A dog is heavy on requirements and needs more attention than a cat.

Pedigrees are always less stable, generally with defects due to their inbreeding, and almost always more temperamental. I suggest you adopt an orphan rock from an abandoned quarry or hillside rather than purchasing one with a pedigree. There are plenty of rocks out there that need good homes and can be had for the picking up. They will be more appreciative of a good home than one that's been pampered all its life. A good introductory geology textbook can acquaint you with the various kinds and their characteristics if you're inclined to make a thoughtful choice. If you prefer the intuitive approach you can, of course, just take a walk in any area where rocks congregate and wait for one to call to you. Good luck in finding yourself a new companion.

You should just get a mutt pet rock from your local rock shelter.

I have many feral rocks around my property.  I caught one and tamed it.  Drew some eyes on it with a marker.  It talks to me when it feels like it.

Be careful though - some of those rocks are pretty damaged and need a lot of care and attention.  I adopted a brick that had been thrown through a shop window and it was just too much stresss looking after it.  Sadly we just had to give it back to the shelter.

Adopting a brick seems a difficult, if noble, endeavor. I would think a natural rock would be a more well-adjusted pet. Obviously a natural rock could have had bad experiences with humans, but a brick is almost guaranteed to have been abused.

Gravel?

I don't know.  Look, I'm not racist but I think I'd prefer a nice set of polished rocks to gravel.

It sounds like a stupid rock, talking through his eyes.

Aquarium sites are actually good places to get a pet rock.

I had a bit of meteorite, it seemed to be a model pet, turns out it was abducting and probing my fossil collection.

You can find sources you need in hollywood.

I saw (not touched) one of the Apollo 11 moon-rock (more speck) samples that Nixon gave to our Prime minister at the time (Wilson), that was (probably still is) at the National Space centre at Leicester, they also have a Moon rock from the last Moon landing, Apollo 17, collected by Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmidt at Shorty Crater, but I don’t recall seeing that.
