Beer, one of the most consumed alcoholic beverage in on the planet.

Easy and fun to brew, great to enjoy with friends or just by yourself when you need to spice up your day.

Be it white, Blonde, dark, single-dubble-triple, just hop or more experimental with fruit and whiskey. There are some great beers with impressive tastes.

it depends on in which country you live, but west Europe has a great beer brewing culture with many small and big breweries presenting world-class beers that are enjoyed around the world. Lets not forget America, also.

Lets talk about it, here.

As a Dutchman myself, let me start by offering everyone who ever drunk a Heineken my sincere apologies. You were probably better off having a cup of unfiltered canal water in Amsterdam. These green bottles don’t even deserve to wear the word ‘beer’ on their labels. It’s polluted water with 5% alcohol, leaving for prices as if the Dutch king brewed it himself. And like the other major players on the international beer market, Heineken too is buying lots of nice old breweries that are struggling because they hold on to their original recipes. All over the world  decent brands have been completely ruined by switching to ‘the Heineken Way’.

I usually go for beer with a slight cherry and caramel flavor. Sweet, but I also enjoy dark beer with a smokey flavor and thick body.

My favourite brands are Hertog Jan, Leffe and St Bernardus Abt 12 and Gouden Carlosus.

75cl of 10% dark whiskey goodness. Bottles with cork are also top tier.

Lets just remember:
Cans are shit. Bottles are God.

Great thread idea! I am a fan and former home brewer.

Where I'm from, IPAs are very popular at the moment. And I'd be lying if I said I didn't like them. I love me a nice hop bomb, especially with some West Coast or New Zealand hops. Also a fan of a well made Berliner Weiss, preferably without a fruit addition. And for a nice summer session brew, I used to make a blonde ale that remains one of my favorite beers to this day.

Mostly I enjoy the New England regional brew scene. For me, that's Maine Beer Co, Stoneface, Great Rhythm, Treehouse, Trillium... But I also haven't yet encountered a Lagunitas that I haven't enjoyed.

This is a great idea.

I've brewed many ciders over the years. I've got a beer kit for Christmas. I may have a go of it sometime soon. Any suggestions?

What kind of beer do you prefer? Someone who is definitely not me used to make this blonde ale quite a bit for an easy drinking summer brew. But if you're a stout guy, or a Belgian ale guy, or a hardcore IPA guy, obviously you might choose a different path.

As far as ciders go, do yourself a YUUUUGE favor and brew up an Apfelwein: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/forum/threads/man-i-love-apfelwein.14860/

Laugh all you want, but an ice cold Olde English 800 on a hot day is pretty satisfying.
For good beer I like something crisp and hop heavy, and winter calls for a room temp barley wine.

I am exploring SMaSH brewing. (Single Malt and Single Hop).

I have 5 lbs of hops in the freezer . . . (and some french fries.) . . .

The basic C's:

Chinook
Columbus
Cascade
Centenial

and for bittering:

Magnum

(I just threw out the french fries).

I found a small family owned hop farm in Oregon.
$5 per pound. Beats the snot out of $3.99 per ounce.  ;D

Good selection. I switched between Magnum and Warrior for bittering. It's amazing how much bang for your buck you get from those high AA hops.

I want to play with Saaz, as in Pilsner Urquell.

I also want room to put frozen food.   ::)

CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN, SANITIZE and SANITIZE.
You are good on the hot side. Once the flame is off everything that touches the brew must be sanitary.

Once set in motion, the beer happens on it's own.
Be patient. I "sampled" 1/4 of my first batch before it was finished fermenting.  :o

Here is my home made fermentation temperature monitor . . .

It follows the actual direct temp by about 1½ºF

Just drop it into the fermentation bucket.

Beer is hard to mess up.

You can make beer in a kiddy pool.
Infected beer is not lethal. It just tastes bad.

I started growing orchids when I was 16.
Thought it would be exotic, intensive and impressive.
Turns out you can't kill the fuckin' things.  ::)

Beer is the same way.
