Well, how do we know?

I've seen "evidence" for both.

it would be amusing if the idea turned out to have government backing which was dropped due to it being useless..

I very  much doubt it though

I would rape, pillage, plunder, and rape if that happened.  Did I say rape twice?  Well I like rape.

as I stated before: so the average joe doesn't start going into space themselves, they must go through a government-approved source.

How would they profit from that?  They can make way more profit with the RE conspiracy.

first, they would make profit off either the companies they support, or by people paying them directly to travel

how does FE theory state the government makes money?

HOW? from what ive seen they'd both make losses. If there is a government supported flat earth conspiracy, its just to distract people from real matters like the middle east

On this site, if you are someone who never put him/herself this question ever (flat or round) you can conclude imediatelly this two equivalences:

RE ~ FE
Conspiracy ~ Gravity
..from here you can derive nearly everything, I mean why should the earth not look like a NFL/Rugby ball, a little bit flattened..?
Think the sun moves with its velocity in the galaxy, all the planets folllow  rotating like in a funnel and the whole mass in the galaxy moves like in a funnel as well, around the absorbing center...  8-)

I somehow find it hard to believe that all the worlds governments can work together to do this.

Hmm, maybe thats why the Soviet Union fell...

The fact that the "government" is spending what I can imagine being up in the billions to make us think that the earth is round is stupid.

Why are they doing it?

I like to plunder and pillage and rape on the other earths that can be seen from the edge of the Ice Wall. although you must first find and have fun then you can blend in perfectly.

Well, bad luck does not exist in my reality, for I do not exist out side my imagination, and I have yet to imagine luck, good, or bad.

Uh huh. I can totally believe that if I see the curve of the earth from a mountain, that the earth is flat. Totally.

That's why it's so fortunate that no curvature is visible from the top of a mountain.
