Deja vu

I have read some really interesting theories on this subject. Like for instance, if you are driving in a car somewhere and your subconscious notes that you see a guy riding a bike with a red shirt on up a hill, and some years later in an entirely different place and time you coincidentally see the same thing...your subconscious memory throws up an entirely false memory sensation of having done it before....anyone heard any other theories?

Maybe you observe an event, record it, and consciously remember it before it becomes a conscious observation?

Are you suggesting that children, who report experiencing deja vu, are suffering from early-onset Alzheimer's?  What about people who occassionally report deja vu throughout their lives, but never develop any of the more conventionally-accepted symptoms of Alzheimer's?

I think there's no correlation between the two conditions.

Everyone experiences deja vu. There is nothing supernatural about it.

I do too. I have an active imagination, so once in a while my thoughts or dreams are bound to come true. Its just a coincidence.

Interesting brain fact.....You know when you lose something...like your keys..and you look everywhere for it about 10 times..and then you finally find it in one of the places you already looked . Apparently that is because your brain is specifically looking for a visual image you have in your subconscious. So if the keys are  disguised in some way...say only a side view is showing, then your brain doesnt see it.

like when i lost my soccer ball i could only see one side so i couldn't find it for a while.
he kinds of equations that they have now are the kinds of equations you would get in an approximation scheme to some underlying theory, but nobody knows what the underlying theory is.

I find that when I've lost my keys and look everywhere ten times and haven't found it, it's because I'm wrong about what "everywhere" means and I'm making some unjustifiable assumptions, e.g., "I'm holding the keys in my hands."

You know, there is something odd about feelings of deja vu. Lately I've noticed I will think about something, then a few seconds later I will see it. For example, I was walking to work and then thought about a coworker and wondered if he was there yet. He drives a blue azuzu truck so i looked over at the parking lot and didn't see it, then i turn my head to the road and i see someone in the exact same car, but with someone else in it. I've had a few more occurrences like this where I will think about an object, then a few seconds later I will see it, without expecting to, and it baffles me everytime it happens because it happens so often(IE the occurrences of me not seeing an object that randomly pops into my head are less then when I do see them). I'm not saying it's anything magical or psychic as you all know on these forums I am quite the skeptic. It's probably just an odd coincidence. But I won't deny it could be something deeper if I found someone with a theory about it that makes sense (with evidence of course).

1) The left brain half records the event and stores it in memory.
2) The right brain half records the event and checks the memory for events like this one.
3) The right brain part compares this impression with the one you recorded a moment ago. It finds that they are the same and sends it to consciousness, where you can analyze it and check where the "old" memory comes from.
4) The consciousness gets confused, because it cannot remember where you got the memory. Congratulations, you've just experienced deja vu!!!

Yeah but I actually dream something at night, and wake up the next morning thinking wtf was that about. The next day I see the same thing happening in real-life.

Well I believe in pantheism (that all that is or ever was is God), so what I think is since we are all just embodiments of God, we sometimes experience things from a slightly omnipotent perspective, that is, that we sometimes feel that we have done/seen this thing happening before because we are part of a God who is all time, so has in one way, already experienced all of this before.

Makes you wonder if it's God's version of a practical joke, trying to freak us out. :D

The fact that there are people who report experiencing deja vu, but never develop any simptoms of Alzheimer's doesn't say anything whatsoever about the correlation between the two conditions.  ;)
