P.S. I was a Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy
Wait a sec. You were in the Navy? Like, THE Navy?
What do you mean by THE Navy ?
I was using the term Navy as anyone who had ever been in A Navy....any country's
Navy.
Space Cow Girl has asked your question so many times she should know by now that I WAS in the navy. LOL
Bullwinkle said he doesn't answer comments.
I try to.
So again are there any navy or ex-navy persons out there on this forum with any comments on the horizon at sea ?
I was just wondering what type of ship Bullwinkle was on ?
I was on a small size Escort Aircraft Carrier. (CVE) for about six months and a medium size Seaplane Tender (AV) for about two and a half years of my Sea Duty. I spent one year in Shore Duty in Recruit Training ''Boot Camp'' (11 weeks) and Electronics School (36 weeks). I was a Second Class Petty Officer (ET2/E-5) at the end of my four year enlistment . I was eligible to be promoted to First Class Petty Officer (ET1/E-6) if I had re-enlisted .Pretty much just the average run of the mill so I don't have any thing to brag about in my Illustrious Navy Career LOL. I was awarded the Good Conduct Medal !
Is there a mirage at the top of the oceans horizon?
I understand there can be, but I never had that experience of seeing one during my brief three years of Sea Duty.
My Sea Duty was on three cruises across the Pacific Ocean from California to Japan usually around March of each year and returning to California from Japan each September or October each year. I can not recall ever seeing anything out of the ordinary.
We did run into some rough weather on one return trip back to California. Most was smooth sailing.....and no mirages .
Incidentally I do try to answer comments and will try to answer any questions you may have .
Also if any persons are interested in the nitty-gritty of nautical things like mirages, etc., you can learn a lot on the Encyclopedia Titanica website. There are several members and moderators who have had long and extensive naval services both in the Navy and the Merchant Marine. There are lots of photos of all types of mirages on the message board forums on the Encyclopedia Titanica website.
And a definite NO ! The earth isn't really flat like a disc. The earth is really round like a globe. Ask some of the real sailors on the Encyclopedia Titanica website.
