What do you mean by THE Navy ?
I was using the term Navy as anyone who had ever been in A Navy....any country's
Navy.
Space Cow Girl has asked your question so many times she should know by now that I WAS   in the navy. LOL
Bullwinkle said he doesn't answer comments.
I try to.
So again are there any navy or ex-navy persons out there on this forum with any comments on the horizon at sea ?

I was just wondering what type of ship Bullwinkle was on  ?
I was on a small  size Escort Aircraft Carrier. (CVE) for about six months and a medium size Seaplane Tender (AV) for about two and a half years of my Sea Duty. I spent one year in Shore Duty in Recruit Training ''Boot Camp'' (11 weeks) and Electronics School  (36 weeks). I was a Second Class Petty Officer (ET2/E-5) at the end of my four year enlistment . I was eligible to be promoted to First Class Petty Officer (ET1/E-6) if I had re-enlisted .Pretty much just the average run of the mill so I don't have any thing to brag about in  my Illustrious Navy Career LOL. I was awarded the Good Conduct Medal !

I don't know what's so amazing about  it ?
There must be thousands or maybe millions out there of navy and ex-navy persons all over the world.
But I make no claim as ever being a real sailor......I was just part of the radio and radar repair team.
You aren't expected to know how to tie knots or steer the ship if you're an ET.

Is there a mirage at the top of the oceans horizon?

I understand there can be, but I never had that experience of seeing one  during my brief three years of Sea Duty.

My Sea Duty was on three cruises across the Pacific Ocean from California to Japan usually around March of each year and returning to California from Japan each September or October each year. I can not recall ever seeing anything out of the ordinary.
We did run into some rough weather on one return trip back to California. Most was smooth sailing.....and no mirages .

Incidentally I do try to answer comments and will try to answer any questions you may have .

Also if any persons are interested in the nitty-gritty of nautical things like mirages, etc., you can learn a lot on the Encyclopedia Titanica website. There are several members and moderators who have had long and extensive naval services both in the Navy and the Merchant Marine. There are lots of photos of all types of mirages on the message board forums on the Encyclopedia Titanica website.

And a definite NO ! The earth isn't really flat like a disc. The earth is really round like a globe. Ask some of the real sailors on the Encyclopedia Titanica website.

Well you  can make your own judgment from my previous post .
That was how it was in MY. Navy.
But for most of us who were in specialty ratings it was not all that exciting......just routine at doing your job.
It was interesting and you learned a lot and saw a lot of other places in the world that you never would have seen otherwise.
The only difference between my job in the USN and the FAA was........In the Navy I was on land 25% of the time and at sea 75% of the time........In the FAA I was on land 100% of the time and at sea 0% of the time. LOL
The TV commercials ......I haven't watched them so I can't make an intelligent answer.

Well, we got a little off topic as regards the subject is concerned with this discussion .
Partly my fault.
But I thought it might be interesting to know where Bullwinkle and googleotomy came from as far as ships are concerned.

Have you ever been on a real ship in the middle of a real ocean far away from a real shore ?

Anyone who has paid any attention to anything I have ever said knows the answer.

OK. What kind of ship were you on ?

It was white.

How far could you see to the horizon from that ship ?

All the way.

How many FE's are there who are even active duty persons or any persons who have ever served in a Navy  at some time ?

huh?

What is your answer about my comment on what I should see on my cruise  that I mentioned ?

I don't answer comments.

All the way from where to where ?
If I was on one of my ships the farthest I could  see was to the horizon.....2 miles to the horizon  from a ''Liberty Boat'' ; 10 miles to the horizon from the ''Crow's Nest . ''

Incidentally both ships were only a little less than 500 feet in length.....About half the length of a present day full size Aircraft Carrier

If people did not change their minds under new information then we would never have moved on. Early man did not believe any of what we said, they burned people at the stake if they claimed to be able to speak to others a long distance away, or to fly, or create fire, and you cannot get any greater prejudice than that. As time moved on however that prejudice gave way and we have phones and planes and matches. All people change. If they go through the same experience as you then they will believe as you, if you can only give them that experience. It is easier for you to change our minds than it is for us to change yours, because you have already gone from being one of us to being one of you. How did that happen and how can another experience it?

In the real world if you are not open to new information you are never going to be able to move on.
This is especially true in technical and engineering work.
It seems to me  that FE's are in stuck in ''the world looks flat to me when I look out my window'' and never move on from there.

Here is another suggestion for FE's .:
Which they can do with out leaving their keyboards on their computers.
Go to the Encyclopedia Titanica Website and ask the moderators and especially members. "Jim" and "Samuel" for Flat Earth information.

Speaking personally , the horizon is the simplest explanation of proof  of the curvature of the earth , proof that the earth is a globe , and  proof that the earth isn't flat. This is most demonstrated  at sea in watching ships and land appear and disappear over the horizon.
There really is no proof that the earth is flat.

So, I looked out my window to see reality this morning. I could see nothing but gray half light, so I concluded that nothing existed outside my house, Later that day, it got warmer and sunnier, and when I looked out my window, there was my street and my neighbors. By the Zetetic method, I declare the world did not exist this morning, but was created (re-created? seems much like the world yesterday). i can only conclude that NASA created and destroyed my neighborhood, perhaps the whole world, but how to know?

I turned on the tv, but could be phony NASA broadcasts. No way to tell, NASA can fake anything.

But I looked out my window, and the world didn't exist at 7 am. About 9:30, it started to appear out of the haze. Remarkable, I was able to see as the NASA creation slowly came into view, as if emerging from fog. By 11 am, everything existed again!

I owe all this to the Zetetic method. Just look out your window!
